Bento’s story began when a local Afghan found a young, frightened dog struggling to survive on the streets. He had a severe injury to his front leg most likely the result of a traffic accident — it was an old wound which was badly infected and infested with maggots. He had also lost his paw. They brought him straight to the Nowzad clinic, where our team admitted him for urgent care.

With daily treatment and careful rehabilitation, Bento healed into the sweetest, happiest boy. Months of coping alone meant his remaining front leg grew bowed from the strain, but it doesn’t slow him down. He is calm, loving, playful, and super friendly with people. He has watched so many of his friends leave for their forever families in the West always waiting patiently for his turn. Now, at last, it has arrived.
Bento has been offered a wonderful home in the USA with two friendly dogs who cannot wait to welcome their new brother. His new life will be everything he has never had – acres of woodland, beach adventures just a short drive away, a large soft warm bed, cosy evenings by the fire, and a family who already love him.
