Local bird populations are a vital part of our environment, often being a creature that people in any climate can observe and appreciate.
As the number of birds we care for grows, the need for more pre-prerelease enclosures also increases. To adequately prepare our patients for the wild, they have to spend 2-4 weeks in the outdoor enclosure, getting used to the weather and getting a clear view of the sky. Having an additional pre-release enclosure will allow us to speed up the timeline of release for the birds in our care, allowing us to provide the best care for and release our patients.
In addition to the patients we care for, our Education Turkey Vulture, Arty needs a larger enclosure to live in. Artemis became a patient at another local wildlife center after being injured in the wild. He was deemed unreleasable after they discovered a healed fracture in his right-wing, and was placed with us to be used for education. Arty is a great coworker, and we are excited to have him for programs, but he needs a place to call his own.
Amber, one of our Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators, designed an incredible enclosure that solved both of these problems. An enclosure that would allow for appropriate pre-release space for native songbirds or birds of prey, in addition to giving Artemis a space to call his own was within our grasp.
As a small non-profit organization that runs on donations, it is difficult for us to gather the funds for a project like this one. Your donation will supply an injured bird with the medical care and physical therapy that will aid in its recovery. In addition to that, with your support, Artemis can have a beautiful and enriching enclosure that would allow him to have the best life possible as a resident with Wildbird Recovery, INC.
