PAL Humanitarian Services Inc. hasn't added a story.
We have been made aware of a very desperate situation of severe abuse of two sisters attending the Youth Upliftment School. We are looking for help to get them out of the horrible situation they live in!
From Kate, January 22:
"A wonderful student of ours turned 14 today! Maniphca is the top student in her class, and she takes her studies very seriously.
Her younger sister is named Daphcalie who also attends our school. Maniphca’s teacher approached me to see if we could get some extra assistance for the girls.
Their mother abandoned them many years ago, and their father took care of them. They lived in Haiti. Maniphca speaks highly of her father and said while they struggled in Haiti the father made it a priority to send them to school. He became very ill and decided the best option was to send his daughters to a friend living in the Dominican Republic.
Unfortunately, the woman responsible for the girls has been nothing but terrible to them.
Maniphca approached me to ask if she could take a bucket of water from the school and have a little bit of soap to be able to wash her sister's clothing with hers.
I visited the home and I have to say this was the first time I met someone so honest about how badly they treat the children. The woman (who the girls have to refer to as “aunt” but is not actually an aunt) said she has them to help her and they should be grateful they have a roof over their head. Anything else is extra and would “spoil them”. They are often beaten or made to kneel on a cheese grater.
We would really like to help these sisters with their basic needs, while we look for a long-term solution.
They need a large bucket so they can store their own water in. A pot to cook food in. 2 thermos-type containers (every day the cooks will give them food to eat for dinner). Soap to wash their clothing. A pair of sandals, they currently have to wear their school shoes everywhere as the aunt won’t spend money on anything for them. A towel each and a set of sheets. The girls sleep on the floor and said they would love a blanket. We would also like to give them food in bulk, for the weekends and holidays when school is out. They are allowed to cook but have to put gas in the tank and purchase food. The father used to send a bit of money but because of his illness he can no longer work."
Kate's post on March 11th:
We did an activity with our older students, and I have to say it hurt my heart a little. There was a little space that said “ if I could make a wish, I would wish for”. Each student wished to be in Canada or the USA.
When I spoke to the students, saying how sad it would be for them to not stay and help their community, they reminded me of something. They are not wanted here. Many of them also commented, that when foreigners (Americans and Canadians) come to visit the school they treat them with love and respect. They want to live in a country where they don’t live in fear and people treat them like human beings.
Maniphca and Daphcalie are two sisters who I have posted about before. They are living in a very difficult situation. They live with a woman who is not family. Their mother abandoned them and their father sent them to live in the DR with his “friend”.
We would like to find a “ home sponsor” for them. Someone who can help cover the cost of food, clothing, sandals, medicines, hygiene products, and anything else they may need when they are not in school. The woman they live with told me she would not even “ give them water if they were thirsty or salt if they were hungry”.
We are looking for someone, or multiple people, who can help us take care of these young sisters. The cost would be $80/month ( $960/ year).
Additional information: The "aunt" punishes them by striking them and making them kneel on cheese graters. She is trying to force the oldest to "have a boyfriend" in other words prostitution.
We would like to move them to another place. This would required additional funds but they are part of our own and we would like to help them be safe from some of the worst abuse we have seen.
Charitable tax receipts will be issued both in Canada and the USA. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
