Let's take a moment to open your closet and ask yourself how many of the clothes you own are made with natural fibers. Where did all your clothes "grow"? Maybe none of them have natural fibers. What does that tell you? What are they made of? Probably plastic. In Trama we are aware of the negative impact generated by the traditional textile industry and we want to be a beacon of resistance while proposing solutions.

Trama is a collective founded in 2018 focused on researching sustainable textile production and facilitating access to crops of raw materials that are of great importance for the artisan culture in Puerto Rico. We develop yarn with local fiber while conducting research and educational workshops on our farm located in Bo. Llanos, Aibonito. We are a highly knowledgeable team in agroecology and cultural history of Puerto Rico and a network of young people, artists, and artisans who collaborate in the research and production of natural dyes and textiles.
We want to share our knowledge so that more people get involved in reducing the impact that the textile industry has on the world:
- We believe that textile culture is important in human evolution and should be a part of our basic education.
- Sustainable textile production practices make more efficient use of the resources of the island's agricultural industry.
- Restarting textile knowledge in Puerto Rico will impact the agroecological sector by providing knowledge to future generations.
How you can help
Your donation will help us reach our goals:
- Recondition a space located within our farm to continue offering educational workshops to the Community for free or at a reduced cost.
- Develop a space for artistic research with books on textiles and natural dyes that will be named the Mariana Bracetti Library.
- Buy materials to use in our workshops such as: tables, pots to prepare natural dyes, ingredients, a washing machine, a water tank, tools and waterproof heat gloves.
- Pay the salaries of our team.
