Surviving cancer can be a rocky road.
| Fifteen years ago, as a new camp counselor at a pediatric oncology camp in southern California, I learned this firsthand. | I spent that week caring for a child on active treatment, bringing her slippers to wear, since her feet were too swollen for regular shoes. I walked behind a camper living with a seizure disorder caused by her brain tumor, ready to catch her if she fell. I spent an evening looking up at the stars as my campers mourned a friend who had recently lost her own battle. I met camp counselors who were survivors themselves, here to give the next generation the same benefits they had enjoyed. | In meeting kids and adults at all different stages of their journey with cancer, one thing became very clear: this camaraderie was key to getting through it. | This experience served as the inspiration for Camp Casco, the only summer camp just for kids affected by childhood cancer in Massachusetts. We create a supportive community to help kids navigate the road of cancer survivorship together. Through epic activities, encouraging camp counselors, and welcoming cabinmates, we help kids feel empowered and connected, rather than isolated or different. | Help us on our journey to give this sense of belonging to more childhood cancer patients, survivors, and siblings! About Camp Casco
We provide amazing camps and community-building programs for New England kids who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families. Our camps make summer fun accessible to kids who have spent too much of their young lives battling cancer, from 24/7 onsite medical professionals to all-terrain wheelchairs. Kids spend time making amazing memories with other kids who understand, and parents enjoy a week of respite, knowing that their child is in good hands. Every program is provided at no cost to our families, including bus transportation, meals, and snacks. Our campers experience independence, increase self-esteem, build lasting friendships, and create priceless memories they'll cherish forever.
