In 2017, an ancient and powerful being came to our world to offer hope and solace to humanity.
In the wild and dusty desert of Burning Man, this graceful being towered 20 feet tall and welcomed visitors into the comfort of its own body to be soothed and restored.
This being was called the Solacii.
Created by a team of dedicated artists and visionaries, and supported by a Burning Man Honorarium Grant and hundreds of generous humans who believed in the vision, the Solacii was a response to the deep suffering and turmoil of our world.
Now, in 2019, we are excited to announce that the Solacii has been selected for Downtown Fremont’s public art program! For the next 2 years, the Solacii will offer its soothing presence to the Fremont community.
For its urban residency, the Solacii will be shedding its beautiful, delicate cloak to reveal the intricate form of sinuous steel lines that make up its inner structure. Inspired by the natural networks of mycelia, vines, and neurons, the finely-crafted steel form evokes the flowing interconnectedness of all beings.
We are grateful for this opportunity to to bring the magic of Burning Man, and the healing power of art, into the everyday world. From its inception, this piece was created to offer its gifts of inspiration and healing to the world at large. This installation is the first step in fulfilling that mission.
This will also be lead artist Tigre Bailando’s first long-term sculptural installation in an urban public space, and is an important milestone in their artistic career!
While we have received a generous offering from the city of Fremont, we still need to raise more funds to make this installation possible. We are asking you, our community, to support us in sharing this transformational work.
Your support will go towards the many costs of installing art in the Default World, including transportation of the piece, engineering, insurance, refurbishment & maintenance costs, and legal fees.
