Asociación Santuario Cristiano hasn't added a story.
(Have a look at the Master Campaignto get to know what Santuario Cristiano is doing.)
We are based in the pretty Spanish province of Zamora. It is pleasant and peaceful, but Zamora has a problem. The population has been declining for years.
There are villages in Italy and southern Spain that have been revived by the arrival of immigrants. We want to present the case for welcoming Christian Refugees to do the same for Zamora.
Our main goal is to help Christian Refugees start new lives, but we'd love to see Zamora thrive once again. There is strong case for welcoming Christian refugees to Zamora, and it's a case we are going to make.
Starting in September, we are going to do a series of presentations in town halls and community centers in the province. We will invite mayors and any one else interested.
But we need your help! As a non-profit, we survive on your donations. This is one of our first small steps, and for it we need a few resources. We need some public liability cover, and need to provide some materials for the attendees. Some gifts would be good as well, for example it will be a nice tough to give each our guests a Santuario Cristiano pen, and some refreshments. Things like that.
Not much to ask for, and certainly not much to ask the Lord for! Please do consider donating, and doing your part in changing Zamora, and transforming the lives of Christian refugees.
Why Christian Refugees?
Christian refugees need your help. They need safe places. Spain is safe, but it needs people. We will bring Christian refugees to Spain. We will give them homes, training, and online jobs. They will revive dying communities in Spain. But we need your help!
We feel for all refugees. Other charities that support refugees do a great work, and we applaud and thank God for them. But the Lord has told Santuario Cristiano to help only Christian Refugees. We know they suffer simply because of their faith. And, this is important, they are our brothers and sisters, and the Bible says we should help them.
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? James 2:15-16
There are homeless Christians in the Middle East, there are empty homes in Spain. We will match them up.
The World Has a Problem With the Word 'Christian'
But there is a problem: the authorities won't allow us to use the word 'Christian'. If we just used the word 'refugee', that wouldn't be a problem. But as soon as we say 'Christians', the doors slam shut.
But the Lord can open any doors. Sometimes he breaks them down completely. Governments and secular powers might seem like giants to us, but the Lord can deal with giants, there are no giants compared to Him.
The Lord Will Overcome!
So, for now, we are prevented from bringing Christians to Spain. But we can work around this problem. There are already Christian Refugees in Spain, and they need your help. Just this week, we heard of two Christian families that are here and will soon urgently need assistance. They managed to escape Pakistan and find their way here. The Spanish government gave them asylum, and is giving them some support. They have housing, and are given a very small amount of money to buy food.
There Are No Good Options for Christian Refugees
But they aren't given any training, or anything else. Soon, what little they are being given will end. They will be thrown out onto the streets with nothing. We need to step in and help them.
Going back to Pakistan will not be an option. Pakistan is number 4 on the Open Doors World Watch-list; it's one of the World's most dangerous places to be a Christian. Christians there are attacked, beaten, and murdered because of their faith. Unjust 'blasphemy' laws lead to death sentences for some who refuse to renounce Jesus. For many, going back will be a death sentence.
This is life for many Christian Refugees; they have no good options. Their previous country won't let them move back, their current country won't let them move forward. That is what we want to change, and you can do it with us.
The Big Question: Work
The United Nations, the European Union, and the national government may have a problem with us bringing Christians. But local folks don't. They know they need new people. They also know that immigrants with radically different faiths will not fit in so well. This region of Spain has a long Christian tradition, and Christian Refugees will be fit in better here.
But now we must talk about one major problem: these Christians will need work. They will need something to do, and the local economy is not so great.
We have two solutions for this:
Get people working online. There are online courses where anyone can learn programming and making websites. These courses are very cheap, and sometimes free. We will get people online and give them a chance to learn these valuable skills.
It won't suit everyone, but we will find those who have a gift with computers. Some of these families have teen-aged children, who are just the right age to start doing this.
Then they can start earning online. Computer skills are in high demand, and people can work from anywhere with an Internet connection. Earnings can be high, so just a few people doing this will help the local economy. Good for the Christian Refugees, good for the local communities.
Small scale farming. The decline of small villages in Spain doesn't only mean empty homes, but empty land as well. The climate is similar to many places in the Middle East. We will talk to the local Mayors, and find ways where the migrants can work the land and produce food.
We can set up co-operatives so migrants can get their goods to market, and share tractors and other machines. It may not make people millionaires, but it will let them be self-sufficient and earn some money.
The Lord is good. He gave us everything we need to create an economy; good things can grow in the ground!
What We Need Next
The first steps are as follows:
- Find Christian Refugees already in Spain. We are already connecting with Christians who need help. That's OK, we've got this one!
- Speak to local communities. We will do a local presentation in September. We are inviting the 250 Mayors of this province, as well as pastors, priests, and anyone else interested. We need to pay for some materials and insurance (See sub-campaign)
- A mini-van. The trains and buses in Spain are great, but some of these villages are quite remote! We will need to get at least one 9-seater vehicle to move things and people around. (Sub-campaign coming soon)
- Properties. Our video shows a large apartment block, but we will start smaller than that. At the very start, we will be helping just 4 families. So we will need 4 homes. We will probably need to rent or buy places, but local mayors may help us locate abandoned properties. Either way, we will need money for repairs and renovations.
- Computers. We have to help our brothers and sisters start learning, and earning, as quickly as possible.
- And then... the sky's the limit! Or, strictly speaking, the Lord is the limit. So there is no limit!
In Summary
We've been told that we are on collision course with the World. We've been told that we should delete the word 'Christian' and accept the World's thinking. We've been told that this project could be at risk if it is only for our brothers and sisters.
We don't care. The Lord has given us this job.
If we are at risk, we are at risk for Christ. We will not change, dilute, or compromise on what God has told us to do. We know that the Lord has the victory, He holds persecuted Christians in His hands. We know we have a part to play in that.
And what about you? Are you willing to be part of this? Do you think the World should know that Christians won't compromise? Please consider sharing our message, and please do give generously to this campaign.
