Welcome to Richmond Christian School Walk the Wall 2021!

During the week of April 19 to 23, RCS will take part in Walking the Wall for China’s Most Vulnerable Children

Every year thousands of people all around the world take part in Walk the Wall in order to make a difference in the lives of China’s most vulnerable children. Since Walk the Wall began, millions of dollars have been raised enabling International China Concern (ICC) to transform the lives of children with disabilities.

What is the RCS Walk the Wall?

Richmond Christian School has been a partner with ICC for over ten years. For the last ten years, RCS has taken part in ICC events because we believe in the work that ICC does.

In order to do that, we have developed a Covid-safe plan that will enable our students to walk safely, enjoy a fun event and raise funds that will help China’s most vulnerable children.

During the week of April 19 to 23, RCS students will be walking in our individual class groups to raise funds for ICC.

You can make a difference!

Who is International China Concern?

Our partner, International China Concern, has been serving children with disabilities in China for 27 years. ICC works with hundreds of families that have children with disabilities, providing them with the support and services they need so that they never have to make that desperate and devastating decision to abandon their child.

In situations where children have been abandoned by their families, ICC steps in to provide family-style homes for these abandoned children. A place where they are loved and nurtured, and receive the therapy, education, medical care and vocational training that these children need in order to flourish and thrive.

How we'll walk and keep safe during Covid

During the week of April 19 to 23, each RCS High School class will have their own specific time to walk 1 KM each day. Over the week, we will walk a total of 5 KM. And of course, we will follow all Covid protocols to ensure that both students and teachers stay safe.

Meet Beibei

Beibei was abandoned at two months old and came into ICC’s care at 9 months. He has hydrocephalus, which causes abnormal swelling and increased pressure in the brain. Beibei has needed several operations to relieve his condition, including the removal of a tumour. Today he’s a smart, lively, and hilarious part of our ICC family!

Give other children like Beibei access to health care that can make a difference in their life.

Standing for Justice!

Making a difference in this world is something all of us care about. Whether we look in our own city or across the world there are many instances of people being treated unjustly. It can be incredibly difficult for those facing injustice to stand up and change their circumstances  and reform the systems that force injustice upon them. Imagine how much more challenging is it for helpless children who are victims of injustice?

Imagine if you were born as a child with a disability in a country where you are treated as an outcast of society. Imagine the challenges you would face as your parents struggle to provide for you. Imagine if everyone in their community excludes them because of you , leaving your family isolated and friendless. Imagine what life is like when you are not permitted to attend  school, denied any medical support, considered unemployable; and you live with the sad reality that you are friendless, invisible and totally excluded from society. Imagine never being able to leave your home….ever. Imagine, living with the pain and fear of one day being abandoned because your parents can no longer care for you.

This is the reality for children in China with disabilities.
