Cal Mc hasn't added a story.
Hi! my name is Cal, I'm queer, nonbinary, a mobile massage therapist and community health educator in Albuquerque, NM. Professionally, I provide mobile massage therapy on a sliding scale for the trans/gender non-conforming community as well as in-home massage for medically fragile kids. I have been in New Mexico as a body worker for 10 years, community health educator for 8, and mobile medical massage therapist for 6. Most recently, I have been achieving prerequisite courses toward UNM's doctoral program in Occupational Therapy. My goal is to submit a strong application in 2020.
My cause is personal, uncomfortable, and pretty urgent:
The details are below, and basically: my car was repossessed about a month ago. To recover my car, I must payoff $5855 (the loan balance of $5316 and the tow fees of $75 pickup+$15/day storage) . Since the repo I have managed to squirrel away about $1600. So, my ask is for:
Cash Support: $4385 goal ($4255 + 3% Paypal fee) by January 7* (I changed the fundraiser goal to the 8th, because the auction date changed and 24 hours matters a lot)
- Send money through this page via credit card/Paypal (if you can, please add 3% for the transaction fee)
- Send me $$ direct on V en mo, my handle is (at)Cal-McManus (no transaction fee)
- Send me $$ direct on Cas h App, my handle is (dollarsign)calmcmanus (no transaction fee)
- All local ABQ/Santa Fe donations may be exchanged for massage. Please indicate if you would like massage services for your donation ($1/minute outside of gift certificates packages. If you are trans/gender non-conforming the sliding scale is $0-1/minute)
- Purchase a package of gift certificates (10 massages $500, 20 massages $1000-save $10-30/massage)
- Purchase a couples massage class ($1/minute local in NM or via Skype/Google Chat)
- Purchase any of the items/sports equipment I have for sale (see photo below).
Non Cash Support:
- Share with your friends on social media (FB non-publicly, please)
- Send your version of caring thoughts/prayer/spells/intentions/vibes. . .
- Host a massage "spa day" at your home/workplace (your invitees pay me $1/min)
- Help me strategize better solutions/work smarter
- Financial advisement (the conversational type/ not the investment type)
- Side jobs (cleaning, painting, yard work, plastering, child care, animal care, house sitting, )
- Lift the hex, and talk with me?
- Set up a car share with me?If you're in Albuquerque, when I get the car back, I'd love to share it!
- Let me know of shared queer/trans housing for under $500/month incl utilities in Albuquerque
- Sit with me while I complete additional SSDI (disability) paperwork
So. . . the details. . .what happened with Cal?
Financially: The story begins in March, when my
primary massage clients changed payroll procedures and their
representative did not provide me with that important information.
This caused me to drain my savings and receive my first major paycheck
of 2018, in May. Payroll issues snowballed through the fall, and I
averaged one paycheck every other month. I'm grateful to an apartment
manager who has allowed months of late payments, but I was not so
lucky with my car loan. At the beginning of December, my car was
repossessed by the bank.
Mentally: Like many of us,depression and
anxiety have been my sneaky sidekicks for years. Additional events of
the last year (including the financial) have sent me into deep levels
of co-occuring cPTSD and PTSD. Clip on the weight of intense upsets
(within and beyond my control) at the end of summer and I couldn't
regain the coping and self care mechanisms that previously held me
functional. With strained capacity to hold my roster of massage
clients, I decided to drop the mental and financial expenses of my
full time school load. Still I became so irrationally anxious I could
not leave my home for weeks at a time.
The financial and mental are related: an event that heightens my PTSD also spikes anxiety , which effects my ability to function, leading to days of work lost, financial instability, and uninterrupted: the cycle nose dives. Studying these concepts in community health it has helped me identify what is happening so I can do something about it, and while that study has often been the event to prompt the downward cycle, I'm still grateful. Also I understand this is all temporary.
What I'm doing: I currently have an application submitted for SSDI (Social Security/Disability). I also have several structured, non-home health tech applications submitted. In the meantime, I will continue to borrow cars and work on side projects for income. I'm grateful to have had medicaid cover a medical doctor and therapist who communicate with each other. My doctor moved so I'm seeking a new team to help me to navigate my brain's chemicals and my mental immune systems. Food and work are my drugs of choice, so sobriety is a funny concept for me. Since the increase in my prescription meds last year, I am still abstaining from any alcohol intake and solely rely on anti-depressants and hormone replacement, chemically. As I rebuild what self-care and care I need, I've maintained the practice of looking at conscious and listening to feedback of unconscious behavior patterns, going outside everyday, drinking at least a gallon of water, cuddling my cat, borrowing other people's dogs. I look forward to running on the trails again, soon.
Many Thanks
