PUSPADI Bali is the only NGO on the island making and distributing high quality prosthetics, orthotics and wheelchairs to people with disabilities from impoverished communities across Bali and East Indonesia.
Established in 1999 by its Director I Nengah Latra, PUSPADI Bali focuses on providing appropriately fitted mobility aids, rehabilitation and a skills training program to people in need, so they can be independent and have an improved quality of life.
To date, the NGO has provided prosthetics, orthotics, wheelchairs to more than 5,700 people in need in rural Bali, Lombok, Sumba, Atambua and Papua. 61% of its staff have a physical disability, so they can truly empathize and understand the needs of people with disabilities.
Each week, our dedicated field workers go and find more people with disabilities hiding away in shame due to a cultural stigma in Bali, that their physical condition is karma and they're cursed. Once finding them, the PUSPADI Bali team assesses their needs, before quickly providing them with a quality prosthetic, orthotic or wheelchair and rehabilitation. The NGO also provides a skills training for job seekers with disabilities in Bali and East Indonesia who want to build themselves professionally and personally, so they're ready for the workforce.
PUSPADI Bali strongly advocates for disability rights and actively fight stigmas, discrimination and barriers preventing people with disabilities from reaching their full potential. Learn more about our work www.puspadibali.org.
