10,000 years ago, the horse went extinct from North America. Spain re-introduced the horse to the Americas - making the Musgang 'American's Horse.' Today there are over nine million horses in America, yet less than 150,000 are special enough to be considered 'America's Horse.' Sadly, without a sustainable solution, history will repeat and these legends will be lost.
As professional horse trainers, this is our problem to solve. But we need the communities help and support.
Mustang adoptions are at an all-time low. Early efforts to raise awareness initally increased adoptions, but a combination of declining adoptions, distractions by the same early efforts has resulted in less horse removed from long-term facialities, creating our current 'unsustainble situation,'
However, these early efforts created an increasing demand for 'trained' mustangs. This was the inspiration for the 'My American Mustang' App, developed to augment and support the professionals 'gentling' these wild horses in preparation for adoption.
At the end of the day, it is always been about the horse. As a commnity with shared values and goals, we hope our efforts, supported by the skills of fellow trainers and backed with support by the Bureau of Land Management, we will finally achieve a balance with the mustang population and the land that supports them.
