Bio 2021
Glenn Sigurdson, is known for his path breaking work bridging divides within and among organizations, building relationships and unlikely alliances, and developing creative outcomes. In 2020, Glenn was appointed to the Order of Canada (C.M.), one of Canada’s highest civilian honours, in recognition of his many contributions as a social innovator.
A major focus of his distinguished career is mediating complex multilateral challenges involving resource, environment and land use issues, often involving indigenous rights and interests, including mining to oil & gas, fish to forests, energy and water.
Internationally recognized he was profiled by the Program Negotiation at Harvard Law School: Public Dispute Mediators: Profiles of 15 Distinguished Careers (2000) He is Chair of the Board of Directors of RESOLVE Inc., an NGO headquartered in Washington D.C. globally recognized for its collaborative leadership forging sustainable solutions to critical social, health, and environmental challenges by creating innovative partnerships where they are least likely and most needed (www.resolve.ngo).
He co-authored a widely referenced book, Building Consensus for A Sustainable Future – Putting Principles into Practice, a 1996 publication of the National Round Table of Canada. He has facilitated such critical resolution efforts as the Exploratory Dialogues on Residential Schools. A pioneer of environmental mediation, he has made foundational contributions to Canadian fisheries management and global mining practices, notably by establishing the Global Energy Minerals and Markets Dialogue forum.
Additionally, he is also a speaker, writer and teacher, including as an adjunct professor at SFU School of Environmental & Resource Management, and formerly the School of Business. .
