Farran and Tricia opened PowerHouse San Jose—a creative space for women+—with grit, heart, and a whole lot of DIY spirit. We rolled up our sleeves, funded much of the build-out ourselves, and poured in the labor to create a co-working and media production studio that’s already alive with workshops, live music, podcasting, and community events. In true startup style, we’ve hit the ground running and the response has been incredible! 

In our first year:

• membership has grown to include more than 20 women+ creatives!
• we launched Unmuted Studio for podcasting and content creation
• we won on an upcoming grant (that we can't mention publicly yet...shhhhhh.....) that will support the "Different Drum" project bringing live music to families with neurodivergent children in the PowerHouse backyard.
• we've hosted dozens of events and  workshops including: Unmuted 101 Studio Training, Vision Boarding, Monthly Clothing Exchange, Karaoke, "Rock Your Bio" writing workshops, , Movie Nights, Rock Painting and Flower Crown Making.
• we installed a mural titled "Rising Together" by artist Melissa Marzan in collaboration with the San Jose Sharks
• hosted a "Women's History Month" celebration featuring Eve's Heaven, spoken words poets and an interpretive dancer
• we received an arts marketing grant from the San Jose Downtown Association
• Several members are producing podcasts in-house
• Grown to a steady flow of podcasting client that directly fund the growth of PowerHouse

At the beginning of this exciting venture, we used to say "If we build it, they will come." Well, we've built it. And the community response has been incredible! With your support, we will continue to expand, strengthening our professional development programs, and hosting even more community-driven events that amplify marginalized voices.
