Helping our community get to the next level of crowdfunding success

One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying.” – Joan of Arc.

Linda Palmer wrote a heartbreaking personal story about secrets of her estranged father who left the family and wasn’t around his kids over 20 years. This is a real and powerful story that shows how important it is to let people be themselves and live their lives authentically. The story has touched so many people, that Linda and her family have decided to film it and dedicate it to those struggling with life issues or caring for loved ones with dementia.

The Crowdfunder Show together with FundRazr is helping to raise money for the film production to get it to festivals like Sundance and Cannes, because the story needs to be told and seen by people.

One day out of the blue, Linda’s father ‘friended’ her and her brothers on Facebook. No one, except the oldest brother, David, called him and realized a true reason of their father’s appearance. David found out that he was suffering from a late stage of dementia and he should not be living alone.

Dealing with all the child’s memories of the misogynist, racist, wife-beating father, David decided to take care of him. Because of that decision he got a revelation from his dad that changed everything.

Their father told in details about the time when his parents found him with a gay and placed him in an institution where he was subjected to shock therapy for many years. He also told he fell in love with an African-American man while institutionalized. Sharing his past terrors and agony has helped David and Linda start healing and understand the reasons of his bullying.

Their father lived with David’s family for about a year and a half before he passed away. All the secrets were verified when their father died.

I believe this project will touch the masses, more so because it’s dealing with something nearly all baby boomers are well aware of, the care of their loved ones afflicted with Dementia or Alzheimers. In fact, the majority of the support we’ve received, has come primarily from those who have experienced care giving for a loved one touched by Dementia and Alzheimers. As the story unfolds and the audience discovers another socially relevant issue, the film will serve as a catalyst to spark conversation about how important it is to let all people live their lives authentically.” – Linda Palmer, the writer and producer of short film “Our father”.
