CNIB: Crowdfunding to See Beyond Blindness

Do you still remember the feeling you had when you caught the flu and had to stay at home while your friends went outside and played? I bet you felt like you missed out and that life is so unfair. Unfortunately, millions of kids around the world – such as kids who are visually impaired – experience those same feelings everyday as their physical conditions limit their ability to participate in activities.
So we ask, “What if…a kid could ‘just be a kid’, even if they can’t see?” Being blind or partially sighted can be a challenge to ‘just being a kid’. Without adequate supervision and protocol, it’s a challenge for them to partake in everyday, physical activities such as tag, or even running. However, with the right protocols, these hurdles can be by-passed.
CNIB (Canadian National Institute For The Blind) started Lake Joe camp, where kids with impaired vision are given an opportunity to “just be a kid” as they go swimming, waterskiing, body-boarding and even sailing. The activities help them learn new valuable skills and build confidence, which are tremendous in overcoming daily challenges in the future. Check out the video to see how the magic happens.
To ensure that Lake Joe camp is a safe and fun environment, CNIB has continued to upgrade and renovate the facility to ensure that equipments are customized for kids that are visually impaired. However, renovations are expensive and there are still many areas that require renovation such as the wooden chairs that are used across the camp.

To help with the expenses, CNIB turned to Fundrazr to help fundraise and replace its old wooden chairs. The organization plans to replace 50 wooden chairs with new composite chairs that are safer, more sustainable, and constructed from recycled material.
