Aerobatic Champion Takes On The World

Rob Holland’s 1st place finish at the National Championship has earned him a spot on the United States Aerobatic Team for the 2015 World Aerobatic Championships in Chateauroux, France (August 20-29). Rob’s goal is to bring home the Overall and Team Gold Medals in 2015 and win the World Freestyle Championship for the 3rd consecutive time!
The high cost to compete in the championship has pushed Rob to reach out to his fans to raise the funds. In exchange for contributions Rob is offering a great range of unique perks at different price points, including merchandise and a ride with Rob! We spoke with Rob on working towards reaching his FundRazr goal, and how he’s using Facebook to reach his established online community of support.

What are you raising money for?
I have been fortunate enough to earn a position on the US Aerobatic Team. We will be competing at the World Aerobatic Championships in 2015 in France. Each member of the team is completely self funded, meaning each competitor is responsible for the massive costs of shipping their aircraft across the world. I’m trying to raise money so I can represent my country at the World Championships.
Why did you decide to turn to crowdfunding?
A friend told me about it and it seemed like a good idea. I have a large Facebook following (over 180,000 likes) and I thought I might be able to tap into peoples generosity.
How did you initially promoting your campaign and create a community of support?
I simply put a post on my Facebook page and asked people to please share it. The generosity has truly been humbling.
What has been a challenge you faced while crowdfunding?
No real challenges so far….but I’m only a couple weeks into this process.
What has been the highlight of your crowdfunding experience?
The simple show of support by so many peoples.
Do you have any advice for others who want to start crowdfunding?
Stick with it and update often. You have to believe in what you are doing.
No one else will if you don’t first!!
