Here’s How to Stand Out from the Crowd on #GivingTuesday
It’s Time to Get Personal
Email your friends, family, colleagues, and generally every appropriate person you can think of about #GivingTuesday. Send them a personalized message and let them know what you’re up to, and how they can contribute. The time of year makes the ask much easier. Let them know that if they can’t afford to donate (given the expensive nature of the holiday season) how grateful you would be if they could share the campaign with their networks as well.
Put Your Social Shoes On
Go to town using the official hashtag #GivingTuesday to be connected to the giving community and get extra visibility for your campaign. Remember, it’s not enough to shout into the crowded room that is twitter. Get in conversations with people and be sure to include the URL link to your fundraising campaign so people can take action right away.
Let’s Make the Headlines!
#GivingTuesday has a lot of buzz, is seasonal, and a source for stories for news media. Leverage the newsworthiness of the event by reaching out to your local media (newspapers, online news, blogs and radio). Write a pitch about what you’re raising money for and how it’s an opportunity for people to join the #GivingTuesday movement. Campaigns that receive news coverage (both online or offline) raised 2 to 3 times more than campaigns that don’t. If this seems daunting, we can help you learn how to pitch your story to the media.
