The Parent Leadership Project equips parents with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to raise their voices for their children and for all children in Kansas.

Parents are a child's first teacher.  They also are a child's best advocate.

Each spring, KHSA takes Kansas parents to Washington, D.C. to meet with the Kansas members of Congress on Capitol Hill.  In these offices, parents tell their stories of how Head Start and early childhood supports and services have made a difference for their families.  Their goal?  To bring the faces of real children and families—their children and families—into focus for the people making important decisions about these supports and services.  In the process they learn to become powerful advocates; powerful voices.

Their voices don't go quiet after they leave Washington.

We asked the parents who participated in this experience in past years what advocacy means to them.  They said that advocacy is:

  • A voice for something you believe in and are passionate about.
  • Giving a voice to someone who cannot speak loud enough on their own to be heard

The Parent Leadership Project equips parents with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to raise their voices for their children and for all children in Kansas.

This giving season, KHSA is launching a new campaign to help even more parents raise their voices for the children they believe in.
