I am a retired airman raising money to send quality care packages to deployed members of a helicopter rescue squadron. There is a group of about 25 members deployed to a bare-bones base and are in need of essentials such as toiletries and also magazines.

Hello friends, I was recently contacted by a flight engineer that I worked with in the Air Force for assistance. He gave up the easy life of VIP Gulfstream aircrew and requested a transfer to a Helicopter Rescue Squadron in interest of better serving his country. Please join me in raising funds to purchase and send care packages to deployed members of his squadron who are at a remote base with limited/no support, where they expect to be through the holidays. I have signed up with this site to allow flexibility for donation formats and tracking. I would like to purchase and mail the care packages NLT the week before Thanksgiving. I plan to shop for and mail the care packages myself. I would like to set a goal of $750, this would be an average of about $25 per deployed member, plus shipping and collection costs. Thank you for your support of this initiative! For those of you who are Veterans, just think back to the care packages you may have received during your deployments and the sense of support and caring that you felt...thank you for considering a donation.

Here is the request from my friend:  "One of our flights is currently deployed to a pretty isolated area supporting what you might be seeing on the news. They've had a tough time with little outside support. They arrived to a bare base and have had to build up their own facilities on top of flying. Anyhow, i recently received word that they are running low on bare essentials (razers, shavers, toothpaste deodorant etc). They also have no connection to the outside and its starting to wear on them. On top of the essential stuff, they are asking for items like books and old magazines (like mens journal, maxim) to barter with the Marines there. It takes awhile for items to arrive (about 1month) and i want them to have something by xmas."
