Hello Friends and Family – I had the honor of representing Oregon as the American Lung Association’s Lung Force Hero in 2019 and I am now a member of the Oregon Leadership Board.   As a 2-time lung cancer survivor I am continually impressed with the role the ALA has played in supporting not only lung cancer, but other diseases of the lung including emphysema and COPD.   The ALA also played a major role in eradicating tuberculosis.

We are now facing another deadly lung disease – COVID 19.  It has affected everyone, especially those of us who suffer from lung disease, have compromised immune systems and communities of color who are at a higher risk of experiencing complications.  COVID-19 has taken 136,938 lives (as of July 15th) and has shut down our country for several months.

Now that we are reopening, we are experiencing growing numbers of the virus in 42 states.  The ALA’s fundraising has been dramatically affected by COVID-19 with the cancellation or postponement of events and losing out on corporate giving that includes employee matches.

Science holds the key to ending this deadly pandemic and preventing it from recurring. The Pacific West region of the American Lung Association is kicking off a $250k initiative to support and fund research toward prevention, detection, vaccines and treatment therapies for this deadly virus. 

I am asking you to do your part and make a $19 (or more) donation to the American Lung Association for this critical research.
