Nowzad hasn't added a story.
Diesel, Linus, Tope and Zeus are all rescue dogs who are currently at the Nowzad shelter in Kabul, Afghanistan.
You can read their compelling 'tails' of how they get there below.
Diesel:
Diesel
was found as a tiny puppy in a motor garage on the streets of
Kabul, terrified and in pain after being hit by a car.
In
the safety of the Nowzad clinic, we were able to confirm that the
puppy had a broken pelvis.
Thankfully, with treatment and
lots of TLC he soon made a full recovery and found himself a name
'Diesel', as his white fur was back with diesel when we found him.
Linus:
Linus
is one of our long standing residents who has been at the Nowzad
Shelter for over 6 years now.
She was once a much loved family pet in Afghanistan, but sadly her Afghan family had moved out of their house with a garden and into an apartment where they were unable to keep her. We took Linus in at the shelter where she has been ever since.
Tope:
Tope
was found as a tiny puppy struggling to survive on his
own.
We took him in at the Nowzad clinic where he found
comfort by always having a ball with him.
This shy and scared
little pup soon grew into a big gentle giant who loves other dogs
and people alike. We decided that 'Tope' would be the perfect name
for him, as it translates to 'ball' in Dari.
Zeus:
Zeus was found as a sweet little pup on the streets of Kabul by a kind Afghan lady who realized that he was struggling to walk.
She brought him straight to the Nowzad clinic where our
Veterinarians discovered, like Diesel, he was suffering with a
broken femur, most likely as a result of being hit by a
car.
Like Diesel, he went on to make a full recovery and has
been at Nowzad ever since.
Now, these four deserving rescues have been given the opportunity of a lifetime!
The team at Nowzad's sister shelter - 'The Potter League for
Animals' have generously offered to foster Diesel, Linus, Tope and
Zeus and find them loving forever homes, as well as fundraise the
amount required to transport them there!
Here is what they have to say:
The Potter League for Animals, located in Middletown, Rhode
Island, was founded in 1929 and is the area's go-to animal resource
center helping pets and people in Rhode Island and beyond.
Its
mission is to promote the humane treatment of all animals, while
providing shelter and care for lost or unwanted companion animals.
Approximately 2,000 dogs, cats, rabbits and other small
animals are received at the Potter League annually.
The Potter
League and NOWZAD “met” when Newport resident Negeen Pegahi was
stationed in Afghanistan in 2013, and NOWZAD assisted Negeen in
bringing her cat Panzer home with her. Negeen’s friend Joan
Johnson-Freese was serving on the Potter League Board, heard of
NOWZAD’s remarkable work and encouraged and established a “sister
shelter” relationship between the two organizations.
The
Potter League has taken in animals and found loving homes for
animals from hoarding, cruelty and neglect cases, from areas like
Puerto Rico and Texas subsequent to hurricanes, as well as
neighboring cities and towns and as far as Qatar. After a visit from
Pen and Hannah last year when Pen talked about Handstand - their
star of the first episode of Battle Dogs — Handstand, now know as
Hope, found a new home in Rhode Island with a Potter League employee
where she is now thriving. It is with absolute certainty that Tope,
Diesel, Linus and Zeus will all find forever homes in Rhode Island
as well - a television crew has already asked to cover their
arrival.
Please help us bring these remarkable animals to
their new home.
Donations via check can be mailed to:
Nowzad Dogs NFP, 2770 Main Street #161
Frisco, Texas, 75033, USA
Please include the animal that you would like to donate to in your mailing.
If, for whatever reason, the companion animal rescue is not
successful (such as disease or injury) then at the discretion of
Nowzad Dogs, the funds collected via this Youcaring page will be
allocated to support the vital daily operational costs of the Nowzad
Dogs small animal clinic and shelter in Kabul.
The total required for a companion animal to travel to North
America is on average $5000 for a dog and $2500 for a cat (we make
no profit and everything is subject to currency valuations and fuel
prices on the day). We are sadly unable to offer refunds on donations.
