Peanut Butter's Soldier Savior says:
Hey my name is Mike and I am a SGT in the Texas National Guard currently deployed in Afghanistan. Recently we were sent to southern Afghanistan to run some missions.
That is where we found and fell in love with Peanut Butter.
She was so sweet to us from the very beginning despite that
she has lived a rough life. Instantly she liked my team and would
hang around us when we were not doing missions.
She was very dirty, malnourished, and abused. The locals were
not very nice to her. They would often throw rocks and try and shoot
her with an air gun. We put an end to that very quickly.
She got her name from a few other American soldiers that
showed up down south a few days before we did.
Not sure if many people know, but most of our rations come
with peanut butter spread, and we quickly found out she LOVES peanut
butter, so that is how she got her name.
The weather down south was horrible, often temperatures got to
the low teens. Our living conditions were not the greatest either.
We were living in a tent without power or heat in the beginning.
Eventually we were able to change this, but our team felt
sorry for Peanut Butter. One day we decided to build her a little
house so she could stay out of the cold. We came up with the idea
of using an old kicker box.
Eventually it became time for us to pack up and head back to our camp. I’m not sure how dogs do it, but Peanut Butter knew we were about to leave. I could tell she was sad, as was I. I was 100% positive she would be killed if we left her. It was finally the day to leave and everyone was in their trucks, I was trying to be the last one because in my mind I was fighting whether to take her or leave her. Then all of a sudden there she was right next to my truck. She sat down and just looked at me with those eyes. At that moment, I picked her up and put her in the back of my truck and we said goodbye to southern Afghanistan.
We had quite an adventure home. I think it was Peanut Butter’s
first car ride lol.
She did not like the back and about half
way home decided to climb on top of the turret.
Guess the
view and fresh air was better up there. Anyways we finally made it
back to our home.
Time to clean her up and get her healthy.
Could not give enough thanks to our medics and interpreters.
Together they were able to get Peanut Butter some shots and
medicine.
I decided to stay up really late one of the first nights we got back to sneak Peanut Butter into the showers. She wasn’t the biggest fan of the shower, but did not mind the nice warm water. She really enjoys the scrubbing of the soap and the nice brushing after the shower. She quickly transformed into a new pretty girl. She has become the camp celebrity. Any time anyone sees her, they always call out her name and give her scratches. By the way, no one tells me hello lol. She gets all the attention and love. I’m not jealous, and very happy for her since she has lived a very hard life. Now she gets to hang around and play with the guys on the team.
She gets to sleep in a nice warm room with a comfy blanket all safe and sound without any worries.
But I think her favorite part is getting her treats and hearing about how great of a furever home she will have in the United States. Maybe Jif will help sponsor her to get to the U.S. “choosey dogs choose Jif”
Oh and she loves her head lamp for when it gets dark. lol
