You miss 100% of the shots you don't take (at Nick). So if you've ever dreamt of taking a swipe at me, now is your chance to guarantee somebody else will. On the 25th August I'll be taking part in a charity boxing match — check out the promo video here for a glimpse of what (or who?) is coming for me: 2022 AFG PROMO - I feel so strongly that this is an opportunity that really offers so much to so many people -- here's why.
I WANT YOUR MONEY.
Aprons for Gloves (AFG) Boxing Association and Eastside Boxing Club run vital community outreach services in one of the most vulnerable communities in North America. AFG was founded in 2012 when a few sharp minds and entrepreneurs decided to swap their restaurant gear for boxing gear and put on a fundraising boxing event to secure the gym's future and ensure services for at-risk people continued. I've seen the planning, the stories, and the passion for this event firsthand and I want to be a part of the effort that allows the incredible gym team to continue doing what they do best. After a two-year pause, the event returns this year and I'm privileged to have been able to enter and take part.
I started boxing at the start of lockdown 2020 where Eastside coach, roommate, and good friend Brian asked if I wanted to learn something new. What started as a way to have fun with new friends turned into a love affair with the sport. It has brought me so many health benefits, new friends, a community in the gym, and now I have the chance to support the team in continuing to deliver mentorship, youth programs, and outreach to those who haven't had the same privileges I have.
If you're STILL undecided, here are some other ways you can
spend $50
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. Through Eastside Boxing Club, the program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. Why boxing? Because it's a sport that teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Consistent training results in positive self-esteem, good mental and physical health and social support through peers.
Restaurant Rumble 2022
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Vancouver community get together to train at Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to continue training, each contender is required to meet fundraising milestones along the way. Ultimately, raising $2000 for charity makes them eligible to compete at the Rumble.
Check out the promo video from 2014
This year, the event will be held Thursday, August 25th at Enso Event Centre. If you make a contribution or Follow this campaign, you'll be among the first to hear when tickets go on sale. That means you'll have a chance to see your friend get beat up, live, in person!
