For those of you still unaware, it has been a tough year for our family in coming to grips with cancer of my father, who is terminally ill with liver cancer. This was the context in which I visited my parents in Zimbabwe this October, a tumultuous month during which the economy of the country effectively collapsed, leaving the people of Zimbabwe without fuel, food, and medical services.

It was difficult having to watch a country crumble and simultaneously care for an ailing parent, so I was surprised to find Island Hospice, Africa's oldest hospice, continuing to operate, and provide a safe haven (not to mention nursing, counselling and bereavement services) for people in the last stage of their lives. Home is somewhere I felt I could leave my parents behind and never question that they would be there when I returned; Island Hospice made the prospect of leaving my parents behind and returning to Switzerland just that little bit easier.

This Movember I decided coax some hair through my upper lip follicles, and raise money for Island Hospice. As the month now draws to an end, I would like to kindly ask you to donate whatever you find possible to Island Hospice, so they can continue their good work. As grateful as I will be, i'm sure it would shy in comparison to the gratitude of those in the sunset of their lives...
