My name is Michael DeRouen, and I’m the founder of MoveIt.

Before I get started, thank you for taking the time to check this out!

I'm currently engaged in a business venture that I'm extremely excited about and hope to offer you some insight on. I launched in September 2018 and while tough, starting and operating a business full-time was one of the best decisions that I've ever made and encourage you to make that leap of faith when the opportunity presents itself.

Before reading on, check out this introductory video:

The concept of MoveIt came about after an unpleasant moving situation that my mother and I faced last year.

Would you say that moving washer and dryer units up four flights of stairs with no dolly is a pretty tall task? Well it was one we had to deal with as we worked to clear her storage unit out. With neither of us owning a pickup truck nor the proper equipment, the challenge presented itself in the form of renting a truck, purchasing equipment, loading and unloading the machines, and attempting to get them upstairs ourselves. We managed to wrestle the dryer upstairs, however the washer was a completely different story. An hour had passed and we found ourselves on step 3...not flight 3... STEP 3. With the sun setting, we decided to call a moving company to finish up.

In a bittersweet way, calling a moving company presented us with a new set of issues. Bitter because while the company ultimately completed the job, it wasn't before a burdensome request process, struggling to schedule a date and time, and being overcharged due to minimum hourly fees. But sweet because it sparked my curiosity as to if a more efficient moving operation existed in San Antonio.

It didn’t.

Through research, I discovered how common the troubles we experienced were. While conducting interviews, I met a vast number of people that, in various ways, frequently found themselves in situations where they needed a few items moved but lacked access to a pickup truck and weren't pleased with other options.

I understood, listened, and wasted no time in beginning to fill this market gap. After months of fostering the idea, I decided to leave my job to test the market using MoveIt’s first prototype. Click the link below to check it out.

MoveIt is a platform that lets you request moving jobs from local pickup truck drivers by completing a few simple online steps. Movers are hired as independent contractors that use their personal trucks to complete job requests that come in on the MoveIt platform. As long as your items fit safely in the bed of a full-size pickup truck, you're only a few steps away from a mover arriving, loading your items, and taking them to your destination.

Simplicity, on-demand servicing, and usage-based pricing are all MoveIt features that my mother and I wish we had access to during our situation, but ones that our early users appreciated:

Equipped with 50+ users of experience and valuable feedback, I’m ready to take MoveIt to the next level.

As MoveIt grows, its current technological infrastructure and operative processes won’t effectively sustain an influx of new users. Being resourceful early on is great, but its limitations are very apparent. This has prompted me to begin developing a more robust website, a mobile app, as well as fully-automated back end processes. Not only will this create a better user experience for the consumer, it will allow the processing of move requests to automatically flow through digital interfaces removing the need for manual input and thus better suiting it for the growth that we anticipate in 2019.

With a small boost of capital, I can continue the process of building something pretty special. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated.
