We can help Sri Lanka become landmine-free by 2020! Make a donation to Mines Advisory Group (MAG) America today to give the gift of peace this holiday season. Raising $2,020 will remove landmines from homes, gardens, and schools throughout the country.

Mines Advisory Group (MAG) America is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and building safer futures by removing landmines from countries that have experienced conflict. For #GivingTuesday, we're partnering with our demining team in Sri Lanka to help the entire country become landmine-free by 2020!

A three-decade civil war ended in Sri Lanka in 2009, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced from their homes. MAG has been on the ground in Sri Lanka for over 15 years, working to locate and remove the deadly landmines and unexploded bombs left behind from the conflict. Because of MAG's work and the support of the international community, more than 8,000 acres of land has been cleared, and more than 42,000 landmines and 14,800 unexploded bombs have been removed from communities.

This monumental progress has led us to this moment. The government of Sri Lanka and humanitarian organizations around the world now believe that Sri Lanka can become landmine-free by 2020. Please consider making a #GivingTuesday donation of $20 to help MAG continue work in Sri Lanka to make the entire country landmine-free.

Here's how we'll use your donation:

  • A gift of $20 funds a deminer working in Sri Lanka for a day.
  • A gift of $100 funds a Mine Risk Education class at a local school so children can learn what to do if they spot a mine.
  • A gift of $200 will clear the agricultural land of a family in one of Sri Lanka's most heavily-mined communities.

On #GivingTuesday, you can support the The Rajeevan family (pictured below) in the Periyapandivirchchan Village of the Madhu District. The Rajeevans were displaced for three years during the war. When father Ravindran returned home to farm his land, he found three landmines in his soil.

“After I found the landmines I was very worried. I only used a little of the land after that and it was always scary. Now, thanks to MAG, we have five acres of land we can farm safely. We grow chilies, bananas, and vegetables.”
