Midpeninsula Post hasn't added a story.

Most high schoolers could probably tell you more about the Supreme Court than they could about their school board or city council. Our mission is to change that by reaching teens where they’re at — social media and on the web — with quality local journalism.

The independent nature of our paper lets us draw students from multiple schools, meaning we’re able to gather some of the most motivated and passionate student journalists from our community. It also means we’re able to run our team like a professional paper, as opposed to an education-oriented school program.

The talent that we’ve been able to pool from Palo Alto, Mountain View and Los Altos has allowed us to publish a Spanish-language section, run free journalism classes for middle schoolers, build an advisory board of professional journalists and win local and even congressional awards for our teen-focused journalism.

Our independence has made all of that possible. But it’s also meant that we haven’t had the benefit of receiving funding through a school.

In the year since we’ve founded the Post, our only operational costs have been our domain and website hosting, a cost which our founders covered in the hopes of launching a successful outlet. We’ve done that.

Now, to expand our reach and continue delivering on our promises to our readers, we need your help.

Where will your donation go?

  1. Expanding our free journalism education programs
  2. Creating print editions, which will give us more visibility and allow our journalism to reach a wider audience
  3. Paying for our domain name and Wordpress hosting
  4. Establishing the Post as a nonprofit organization, to receive grants and tax-deductible donations

What will you get?

  1. Your name listed on our website under an initial sponsors section
  2. Access to a donor-only quarterly business newsletter, including revenue and spending reports
  3. The Post’s weekly email newsletter, delivered straight to your inbox
