University Hospital Foundation hasn't added a story.
Hi! My name is Katelyn and with the help of the U of A I started this fundraiser, Lope 4 Lissa. This is in honor of my beloved sister in law Lissa, who passed away on May 21, 2019. Lissa was always passionate about her health and fitness, so at the end of this campaign I will be running my first 5k on May 23rd. Hence the name Lope 4 Lissa! As I stated above if you'd like to join me in the 5k comment here!
Just a week after giving birth to her third child, On May 2, 2019 Lissa suffered a massive stroke and was rushed to the University of Alberta Hospital. The unusually large clot was located at the base of the brain stem. After two unsuccessful attempts at removal, there wasn't much else that could be done. On May 21, 2019 Lissa passed away surrounded by close family and friends. Surrounded by love.
Lissa was one of a kind. A great friend, always willing to make the time to grab a coffee with friends, new and old. Even though she could hold up a conversation with anyone, she was also an amazing listener. She always made the effort. Lissa was always game for a new adventure, whether it be an impromptu road trip or giving a new hobby a go. Mother of 3 and fiercely devoted to her children, Lissa was always their for them. Junior forest wardens, soccer and dance, just to name a few of the many activities that Lissa helped the girls take part in. Not only were her own kids important to her but so were her nieces and nephews as well as all of her friends children as well. Her heart was always full of love and she was always willing to share. Lissa left behind two loving parents whom she had a very special and very deep bond with, one that stretches beyond this life and into the next. As well as a younger brother and sister in law who loved and cherished her dearly. Not to mention the huge extended family lissa had that included loving grandparents, aunts and uncles, and countless cousins. My brother Clayton and Lissa were together for over 20 years. Through thick and thin they loved each other with a passion that only real soul mates would. They were more than just husband and wife, they were best friends and partners in life, another bond that wont ever end. Lissa was a beautiful part of my family, In all meanings of the word she was my sister. Nothing was off limits for us. Whenever we saw each other it was like no time had passed at all, we would pick up right where we left off. We would share our wins and our loses, our crazy ideas and dreams. I knew that I could always go to Lissa, I knew that she would always have my back. Just like many others, not a day goes by that I don't think of Lissa.
All money raised will go directly to the University of Alberta Hospital's Neurology Department. I cant begin to thank all the staff I met while visiting Lissa. My personal experiences with staff were all very positive. Nurses were all very kind and understanding, always there to help if need be. Always willing to talk with me and explain anything I was confused or unsure about.
I wanted to repay their kindness and with the help of a friend who got me in touch with the U of A fundraising coordinator, we were able to start this campaign. If you are willing and able to donate, any amount will help. If for whatever reason you can't donate, that's okay! Even just sharing this campaign on social media helps immensely. As always kind words of support and encouragement are welcomed!
Katelyn
