Julia's Hail Mary Pass hasn't added a story.
Hello everyone!
Welcome to JULIA'S HAIL MARY PASS team! A note on the photo: That's me! This is where it all began -- my love of cats. My husband asked me why I chose a childhood photo. I said it's because childhood photos remind me of who I truly am and wish to remain -- a lover of cats, yes! But also a lover of people--and, now that I'm an adult, a person who wants to do her best to be of service.
Once again, I am so excited to be supporting the Cancer Support Community Los Angeles. Currently, I am the CEO and am honored to be on the leadership team for an organization that has helped so many patients, families, including children, impacted by cancer while never asking for a single penny. How do we do that? Because of people like you. Thank you!
My father died of colon cancer. My grandfather died of prostate
cancer. My uncle died of prostate cancer, another uncle of leukemia.
It's hard to find anyone who does not have a personal connection to
cancer. And if it's not as a patient, then it's as a friend or a
family member who was deeply affected. By 2040, the number of
new cancer cases per year is expected to rise to 29.5
million and the number of cancer-related deaths to 16.4
million. (NCI) Imagine how many friends and family members will be
impacted, too.
My father's death greatly affected my mother's health as his sole caregiver back in Virginia, and on my life here on the West Coast. I felt guilty for not being able to help more, for not being equipped to help. I was anxious, felt out of control, and stuffed away all my feelings -- all of the things that CSCLA can remedy. CSCLA addresses the fact that life goes on while we're searching for cures, better treatments. People must keep their lives together, care for their families, raise their children, hold down jobs, maintain hope.
From support groups and counseling; healthy lifestyle classes; education; child, teen and family programs, CSCLA has helped to keep patients' and families' hearts, minds and spirits healthy while dealing with the trauma of cancer.
So, thank you, friends. I hope that you are doing well. I am so grateful for you.
With love,
Julia
P.S. Give your your cats and dogs a hug for me -- and one for you, too!
GET IN THE GAME for a great cause!
Cancer Support Kickoff is a FUNdraiser in a league of its own. For 40 years, Cancer Support Community Los Angeles (CSCLA) has been at the forefront of free, no-cost psychosocial services for cancer patients and their loved ones. We believe in the holistic health - mind, body, and spirit - of individuals diagnosed with cancer. Football season reminds us that our body's wellness is essential. This peer-to-peer fundraiser is a fun, competitive, action-oriented way to challenge ourselves, friends, family, and colleagues to raise money in support of CSCLA - so that everyone impacted by cancer has support.
