I'm inviting my friends and family to join together in funding a home for a family living in slum conditions in Cartagena, Colombia. Then, I'll travel to Cartagena to help build the home alongside local volunteers and the family. More

Right now, families in this community live in slum conditions: often sleeping on the ground, vulnerable to disease, theft, and extreme weather conditions.

But together we can change this.

THE TRIP

  • I am going to Colombia this May to build a home for a family living in the slums of Cartagena, Colombia
  • My goal is to raise $3,000 for the home by Jan 31
  • if I hit my goal, an impact travel collective called Journey covers my trip to build the home in-person (I cover my flight)

BEFORE (i.e. right now)

  AFTER (i.e. this May)

THE IMPACT

  • Funds will go to TECHO, a US-based 501c3 nonprofit
  • TECHO was started 20 years ago and has built 100,000 homes throughout Latin America, in a sustainable and community-led approach
  • This home will have a locking door and windows for security, solid roof and walls to protect from the elements, and a raised floor.

THE FUNDS

  • $2550 goes to funding the home: build supplies, tools, day-of execution
  • $300 goes to offsetting your on-the-ground costs like transportation, food, and hostels/hotels
  • $150 goes to tech costs + transaction fees
  • The value of my trip is $1490 + flight: if I hit my goal, all I pay is flight
  • We will contribute a total of $30,000 to TECHO, stay at Colombian owned hotels, and support the local economy through sustainable and responsible travel.

THE SUPPORT (YOU!)

  • on the right side of this page there are different amounts you can choose to give
  • I humbly suggest $100 or more: this will make it possible for me to hit my goal with 30 friends giving
  • Call or text me anytime with questions or ideas: I need your help!

THE PARTNER

The company bringing me on this trip is called Journey: an impact travel collective with a mission to create a generation of travelers who address the needs of our world. To date Journeyers have funded and helped build over 100 homes in countries throughout Latin America, with trips that combine 2 days of service with 2 days of integration: a model that creates perspective shifts and builds empathy for others and the Self.
