Institute 193 hasn't added a story.
This fall, Institute 193 is sowing seeds. We need your support to keep them growing.
When Institute 193 opened its doors, we could hardly imagine how bountiful our space would become. Over the past 14 years, we've put together 103 exhibitions, produced over 30 publications, and hosted so many events that we've lost track of the number.
2023 was the first full year in our new, expanded location, allowing our exhibitions to grow even bigger. As we enter the new year, we're looking to push that growth even further, as Institute 193 blossoms into a decentralized museum, the robust contemporary arts center that Lexington deserves.
Let's talk specifics - what are we really scheming?
-
In 2024, there's no doubt we'll continue our excellent programming. Our fields are already sown with a full range of exhibitions, publishing projects, and more. Your contributions will ensure that programming is as abundant as can be.
-
This year, we'll open our museum-style bookstore, a space for regional access to a thoughtful collection of our own publications and those from our friends. A valuable tool for cross-pollination in contemporary debates and dialogues, the bookstore will yield surprising and fruitful connections between readers, writers, and community members. We're also plowing ahead in building an artist residency, branching out from our normal programming to offer a more sustained engagement between Lexington and the wider arts community.
-
And to accomplish all of this, in 2024 we're sinking our roots in even deeper, by hiring a director and embarking on a major endowment campaign, providing fertile ground for Institute 193 to continue to grow
To achieve this, we need your support to raise $25,000 before December 19th. Your contributions to Institute 193 will bring forth a bountiful crop of arts and culture, in 2024 and beyond.
Michael Crossley reads from his recent work in front of the Pagan Babies exhibition.
Jon Mueller performs as part of the 193 Sound concert series, with the Photos by Weems exhibition in the background.
Shadow Box Theatre presents their original crankie, The Search for the Skunkape, a moving panorama of hand-cut images with live musical accompaniment.
Charlie Overman performs for a full house at another edition of 193 Sound.
