Daniel Mollohan hasn't added a story.
Hello, I am Daniel. My friends call me Danny, so you can call me Danny. I am a photographer and an aspiring writer. Mostly, my style of photography is street or documentary. Some would call me a photojournalist, but, to me, that title tends to omit the fine art aspect of what I do with photography. I take the chaos of our everyday existence and transform it into beauty. I am good at this, but there is a problem and his name is Money. This year has been hard. I lost my Father (a huge inspiration to me), and the job market has been difficult. This last month was particularly bad, jobs fell through, rent and bills doubled, and I had to pawn my camera. Other than being a source of income, my camera functions as my therapy.
In mid-2015 I made a decision to quit drinking. For the twenty years prior that was my way of coping with what I thought, and was told, was depression and anxiety. I had been in and out of hospitals, on and off medications, and only experienced life in highs and lows for the better part of my life. Though quitting drinking was difficult, I knew I had to for my health, my relationships and for my career. I was under the impression that my alcoholism was my sole problem, and once that demon was dead I would thrive. I made the correct decision but I also neglected the fact that I did not know the sober me at all. As it turns out, the sober me had some problems too.
After a few months of weekly visits with psychologists and psychiatrists, they came to the conclusion that for most of my adult life, and maybe some of my teen and adolescence, I had been misdiagnosed. Sure the symptoms of depression and anxiety were more than present, but the fact that medication never worked well led them down a different path. My diagnoses was that of Borderline Personality Disorder, and once it was explained to me it made perfect sense. Not only did I meet the five necessary criteria but all nine seemed to be dead on. At first, this was actually good news, I had something. I was not just "overreacting", and this was not something I could "just get over". Also, it is not something a pill can cure. I needed therapy. Well, the kind I needed was not covered by my government insurance, and it was hard to find. I could not go back to self-medicating. I had to figure something out. I buried myself in research, I learned a few wonderful tricks to talk myself out of the darkness that tried to enshroud me not by the day, not by the hour, but by the minute. I had to think, "what calms me? where do I feel safest? when am I my best?", and I came to the conclusion that when I have my camera in my hands, when I am expressing myself, and when my eye is looking through the viewfinder I am stress-free, happy, and I can think my way through my problems clearly. Photography, coupled with a daily blog or facebook posting, was what I found to be my therapy and my healthy replacement for alcohol and drugs. Then I was snapped back into reality. Bills. Rent. Food. I need a day job. I have to work at something to earn a living. No problem. I had found jobs with ease when I was drunk, so going out for jobs sober would be simple. Months went by, and nothing. I used the kindness and generosity of friends and family, but eventually, that fades away. I would come so close to landing good jobs but not close enough, and now I am working a couple of poorly paying jobs. It won't be enough to get my camera out of the pawnshop, and get the upgrades I need to my failing computer, and out of date software, while paying my bills and making rent on time, though. So, I need your help. I need a boost. I need a chance to do what I do well, and to remain a healthy member of society.
My photos are not just pretty pictures. In fact, they help people. They inform people of the worlds that exist right under our noses. Like the work I did for the book "Beneath the Neon". Those photos helped non-profit organizations put a face to the plight of the invisible homeless in Las Vegas. Obviously with the addition of those agencies hard work, too, but without images, with only words, people don't pay attention. Or with my personal project "On the Road" which gave visual life to the decline of the working middle class in America. These are only two examples of my work, and due to constant economic stress, they have been the only two works to meet a large audience. There are many more which are complete, several which are currently in progress, and multitudes which are still ideas. All of them have one thing in common, they aim to inform and help. They literally transform the mundane, the chaotic and sometimes the unattractive into works of the imaginative, the ordered, and the beautiful and at the same time they do so metaphorically. This is the work I intend to do, but can not. So, by helping me succeed you are helping many other people, and you may be saving lives. And not just my own.I have no interest in commercial photography, fashion photography, or any type of photography which exploits, markets products, or just puts cash in my pocket. I want to change the world for the better and all I want, and all I need, is my camera, my computer, food, and shelter. I do not crave material things, as anyone who knows me will tell you. If you donate to me I will do whatever it takes to repay you. It probably will not be in the form of money, but I can offer you my services, and not just equal to what you donate but exponentially more. I am an adequate writer. I have been writing fiction and poetry for years but am currently trying to expand my repertoire to include reportage, reviews, critical essays and technical writing. I am also a talented chef with over fifteen years of professional experience, which includes baking, vegetarian and vegan cuisine, catering, preservation(pickling, curing of meat and fish), kosher cuisine, classical French and Italian, modern cooking techniques(molecular gastronomy) and much more. So, if you could use someone with any of those skills, I would be at your disposal. I am also a good bartender with an extensive knowledge of classic cocktails(put me to work at your next party?).
Originally, this campaign of mine was for $30,000. I was asking for you to donate to me enough money for me to purchase the camera of my dreams, the digital version of what I shot on when I shot film, the camera, the only camera, that can improve the way one takes photographs: The Leica M. And yes, I still think, and always will, that I need that camera. I have written letters to that company pleading for a gift, and offering in trade 50% ownership of every image I take for the rest of my life. The $3000 I am asking for today, though, will get me what I need, and I don't need that which I want, however badly. I will, in time, get what I want, but when it comes to the camera which sits in the pawnshop, that is what I need; not just to make images that can change the way people think but so I can remain healthy and sane. I can not stress that enough: I need this camera to remain healthy and sane. Without it I have no doubt in my broken mind that I will not be well. Something will happen. Please help.
There you are and there you have it: My plea to you, the generous patron of the arts. The modern day renaissance man or woman. I need your help and I need it now, quite desperately. On this site, you will find a few offers. They are by no means the only incentives I offer and are meant to be taken as guidelines. I would not limit myself to any number of hours, or any type of work. Their inclusion is just to supply you with an idea as to what I could offer you if you decide to bless me with your patronage.
Thank you, with every bit of me, and graciously,
Daniel Robert Mollohan

You get my services for a day, but most likely you will get me for more than that. If you donate $50 of your hard earned money to help me out then I will be here for you when you need me. I don't think it's right to put a dollar sign on kindness. Really, if you donate anything and you need anything, I will be here for you.

With a donation of $200 you will recieve an 11x17 original print. These prints are on archival paper and will last lifetimes. Also, you get my services for one day. So, the total dollar value of this package is $600 plus the fact that you will always be on my mind, and I won't stop at these simple "thank you's". I won't stop reminding you of my gratitude with gifts, favors, and whatever I can think of. If you doubt me, then ask aroud. Or

This is something for the business owner. It could be any type of business from a local bar to and attorey's office. What I will give you is extended access to me. This means that whatever your photo needs are (if you have a website you have photo needs, or if you advertise, basically if you do business). This could be photos of your estabishment, headshots of you or your employes, band photos(live and press kit), real estate(if you are an agent photos of your properties) , original art (you give me an idea and I will give you art), event coverage, food, and anything you think your business may need. If you do not think you need professional photos, well, you are incorrect. Great photos can bring people to your site and keep them there. People won't read a word if your site has subpar images. Think about it. And for a $500 donation you will get me for as long as I am needed, and longer. I make myself more than available to my clients, and so far, I have a 100% rate of satisfaction.

Basically, you own me for six months. I will do whatever you need me to do whenever you need it done. Obviously, this will have to be done on my days off, and currently I do not work weekends or late nights. If you need my services on a day that I usually work then I can most likely accomadate you with a one week notice or more. Why $1400? Well, as of right now, that is the cost of freeing my camera gear from the evil clutches of the pawn broker. This price will go up with the passing of each month, so, get it while it is cheap.

With a $3000 donation I will give you 25% rights to any photo that I take from the time you donate that money to that time the following year. That means that if I sell any of those photos ever, as in from now until the world ends, you will receive 25% of that money, always. All of my photos are dated, always, and you will be informed anytime I use those photos for anything. There will be legally binding paperwork included with this incentive. pst..this is the best one.
