Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School hasn't added a story.
KGMS is ready to "Scare Hunger" again!
Every year, we hold a KGMS " Scares Hunger" food drive where our school community brings in non-perishable goods for Harvest Project. Harvest Project and our school community donates these items to North Shore families in need.
This year we will be taking our initiative online, raising money to provide perishable and non-perishable food and toiletries to Harvest Project. In this challenging time, it is important that we help our North Shore neighbours in need. This year, "KGMS Scares Hunger" campaign takes on an even greater importance than ever before as we raise money that will support families who have been impacted financially by the COVID-19 crisis. It is our hope that our KGMS community, which consists of K-12 students, staff and families, will raise enough money to help Harvest Project put groceries in the hands of vulnerable individuals and families. | Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School is a non-profit centre of education supporting students with language-based learning disabilities, located in North Vancouver, BC. For over 40 years, KGMS has helped kids build skills and develop tools to be successful throughout their lives. Our unique program includes one-on-one Orton Gillingham tutoring, the lowest student to teacher ratio in the province, and a focus on hands-on learning. We have a social-emotional learning curriculum, and utilize the principles of Universal Design so that each child who attends our school feels safe and comfortable both physically and emotionally to learn. Our school specializes in educating and growing the confidence of students with dyslexia, autism, ADHD and anxiety, and other learning disabilities in Grades K-12 and our approach is designed to develop the whole child.

The money raised will go towards Harvest Project programs | Harvest Project supports individuals and families who are struggling and unable to purchase groceries, clothing and other basic needs. They provide coaching, grocery top up , grocery gift cards and clothing to these people within our North Shore communities. The grocery gift cards enable people to order food online and have it delivered to their homes. This way, single parents do not need to find childcare, and vulnerable seniors or people with compromised immune systems do not need to leave their homes. This is the safest way to assist people in need. Harvest Project supports families thru coaching and distributes the gift cards to individuals and families in need on the North Shore. These gift cards also allow people to stretch their food budgets without being stigmatized. They can shop with dignity as Harvest Project helps to guide their spending and food choices. |
Please help our KGMS community raise funds for families in need. Any amount counts as we aim to provide any support to North Shore families during this challenging time.
Learning and helping our community together
North Shore schools are important partners in Harvest Project’s work, as students and their families join with us to ‘extend a hand up’ while gaining ‘up-close’ knowledge about the vulnerable place some of our neighbors find themselves in.
A local legacy | A different sort of struggle | Creating a community safety net | Since its beginning, Harvest Project has been embedded on the North Shore - delivering life-saving help to people facing challenges, thanks to support from across the community. Since 1993! | COVID-19 is disturbing our traditional avenues of operation and support. Our monthly coaching sessions have moved from a face to face appointment to phone appointment. Our physical in house grocery support program has been switched to a Grocery Gift card support giving families access to fresh and healthy groceries in grocery stores, local independent markets and stores. Clothes For Changes store is being re-open with a one on one appointment for al clients committed to move forward with the help of our Core Program coaches. | Together with schools, individuals, small businesses and corporate partners we are knitting an emergency safety net that catches and help individuals and families facing life challenges right here in the North Shore from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay. |
A new generation of hope
Help Harvest Project’s social justice and poverty reduction work right here in the North Shore of Vancouver!
Harvest Project age appropriate school presentations and workshops are supporting and helping teachers deliver the Core Competency of Social Responsibility as outlined in the BC School Curriculum.
We're also teaming up with schools in the North Shore to encourage students to be creative and involved members of their community. Together with their help, we can find new ways to jump the hurdles COVID-19 created, and
bring forth the next generation of fundraisers!
Funds raised by schools will be used to provide vital services for our clients and their families. We need your help! We trust students and staff will come up with creative ways to connect with families and friends and in turn, help make a difference right here in our community.
