Who?
Thanks for taking the time to check out this page and learn a bit about one of my greatest passions.
My name is Gabby Villasenor and this is my first time participating in AFG. I graduated just over a year ago and struggled to re-ground myself in my identity. After my varsity soccer career ended I still had that innate desire to compete (I think I always will). I held that firey passion, desire, and tenacity, so close for the past four years that I knew it hadn't quite run its course yet. Thanks to two incredible coaches, I was able to settle into that drive again - as a boxer and for a great cause.
What?
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Why?
Have you ever been told you weren't good enough to do something? Had people set limitations on your abilities? Wanted something so bad that you were willing to put all your time and efforts into creating that something?
That is somewhere along the lines of where my story starts and why I'm here. Until this past year, I was also one of those people creating those stories of disbelief and fear. I felt incredibly trapped in my own mind and I desperately wanted to find a way out. That's when I turned to boxing. I use this art as one of my greatest releases while being disciplined enough to maintain full control. I don't think I could ever explain what this sport has brought to me but I'd be honoured to show you through my Aprons for Gloves journey.
How can YOU help?
I'd appreciate every bit of your support, encouragement, tough love, and partner training throughout the next 3 months.
Please share this page, any and every donation is greatly appreciated and goes towards the youth programs.

Restaurant Rumble 2017
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
