Grimilda has been asking Dominican Starfish Foundation for help with a home for over 10 years.  We have so many requests and since she didn't own land, that help has never happened.  She has saved money to help herself for a long time.  Now her boys are grown but still live with her and help all they can.  With unemployment at an all-time high, only one of them has a small job.  

Grimilda is also raising a young granddaughter, Rosa Maria who is 7 years old.  

Recently she they pooled all their savings, borrowed funds (at high interest) and purchased land in San Marcos and started a home.  

WE ALWAYS LOVE SO MUCH WHEN PEOPLE WORK TO HELP THEMSELVES AND IT INSPIRES US TO HELP THEM AS WELL!  

The funds are totally gone and the house is about 1/3 done.  She recently asked Amarilis if we could help here and there with left-over materials.  Instead we had decided to try to surprise her for Christmas with the news that we will help finish the home.

We have kind donors matching all the funds we can raise and count on others to help make this happen--only 10 days away!
