Our Story
Established in 1974, Gita Nagari Eco Farm and Sanctuary (GNEFS) is a non-profit community-based organization that is dedicated to becoming a model for sustainable and spiritually harmonious living in the modern day.
Nestled in the scenic landscapes along the Blue Mountain and Tuscarora Mountain ranges in Pennsylvania, Gita Nagari is a sprawling 430 acres property that encompasses a sustainable eco farm and a spiritual center for holistic well being.
Sustainable and Ethical Eco-farm Our Eco Farm focuses on regenerative agriculture and is an educational hub for the future of sustainable farming.
We produce organic local harvest that nourishes the surrounding community, collaborate with local farmers and other stakeholders in forwarding sustainable farming practices, host educational programs and workshops, engage in animal welfare and biodiversity conservation projects, and are piloting and innovating sustainable farming technologies.
Most notably, our farm is the first USDA-certified slaughter-free dairy farm in the United States, with a robust focus on ethical and sustainable dairy production. |

Spiritual Sanctuary for the Soul
The other arm of our work is the Spiritual Retreat Centre and Sanctuary that serves as a hub for spiritual learning and cultivation of conscious living. It is a sanctuary for the soul, offering a plethora of retreats that explore the profound principles of Bhakti Yoga alongside non-sectarian spiritual experiences, all based in the understanding that internal growth and environmental sustainability are abidingly interconnected.

Gita Nagari’s vision is to build and be an example for an inclusive and compassionate future for all beings. We work toward this goal by focusing on three fundamental pillars: Spirituality, Sustainability and Social Impact.
Our vision and operations are centered on the spiritual philosophy of Bhakti Yoga, which seeks to honor and empower the innate sacredness in all beings. Our core values of balance, education, and personal growth derive from this understanding and drive all our actions.
By honoring the sanctity of all life, preserving the environment and cultivating meaningful relationships with our community, both locally and globally, we hope to inspire the much needed change in our world today.
