The Southeast Side Coalition to Ban Petcoke (SSCBP) is a multicultural group comprised of residents, community environmental and social agencies, and other Chicago area activists. who have joined forces to rid the community of industrial wastes / toxins.

What would you do if your family, your children, friends, neighbors were exposed to industrial toxins that threatened their health, their ability to work and live and learn?

What would you do if the toxins were confirmed to be in your community and yet the responsible industrial and community leaders were either slow to respond and/or denied knowledge of the situation despite readings from outside monitors? Despite similar troubles occuring with these same toxic materials at their other locations?

We love our community! Many of the residents have lived here for generations and we want to keep our close ties with our extended family and friends! Moving is not an option. Please join with the SSCBP in creating a livable community to work and live in!

Ban Petcoke Coaltion!I am Olga Bautista and am proud of what our Coaltion has done to date with the Petcoke pile removal. I am proud of our neighborhood, proud of our volunteers and am grateful to be able to serve as part of this great effort.

Our expanding team of volunteers will be canvassing the neighborhood this spring and summer --- letting our community know what they have been exposed to and how we are going to fight it together. Costs anticipated include printing door hangers, signs, training for our volunteers and related costs.

To cover these costs, we are holding our first ever fundraiser on March 3, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Patagonia, 48 East Walton Street (Mag Mile) . We hope that everyone who can attend, will attend. But for our friends not available that evening -- we hope that you will send us what you can to support our efforts.

Work to date has been on a shoe string budget with costs paid out of pocket by volunteers. We hope that this fundraiser will allow us to reach moremembers of our community and others in the region. No community should have to stand alone in the face of industrial toxicity! And we are so very grateful we have been surrounded by supporters all along this journey.

We have had interest in the greater Chicago metro area for our cause because of our great volunteers! And if you have been a faithful follower and supporter of this effort, we thank you most sincerely! If you are new to what we are trying to do, thank you for your generosity at whatever level you can donate!
