Lesego Pearl Nkosi hasn't added a story.
Receive a great return on your investment and help Pearl go
to college!
Pearl is 18 years old and is a senior honor student at St.
Saviour High School. She will be graduating this June 2014 with hopes
to further her education in college. Her plan is to pursue an
International Business/International Studies degree.
Pearl's notables, accomplishments and awards:
Pearl has many accomplishments and honors such as receiving the
Brown Memorial Baptist Church “The Voice of a Generation” award 2014,
The Office of the Public Advocate, City of New York-Proclamation 2014,
Girl Scout of Greater New York 2013 Future Woman of Distinction
(Speech:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69A8qMKvRl8&list=FLnEAHEp0bXu8231fdy8Q_tQ),
National Latin Examination: Maxima Cum Laude 2013, Frederick Douglass
and Susan B. Anthony Award 2013, Carmen DuBroc Bright Future
Scholarship 2013 and Girl Scout Gold Award 2012. Pearl has been
selected to participate in many programs such as Girl Scout Leadership
Institute 2013, American Legion Auxiliary-Empire Girls State 2013,
Sadie Nash Leadership Institute 2011-2012, Sadie Nash Kate Stoneman
Project Law Series 2012 and the Columbia High School Law Institute 2010-2011.
Pearl is an Entrepreneur:
In 2011, Pearl created “Living My Life…Free!”, a six-week summer
program she facilitates each year in South Africa. She has worked with
over 150 girls since the program began at her former primary school.
She mentors them in life application skills such as time management,
communication, and conflict resolution; tutors them in Math, English,
and other subjects; and teaches volleyball, a new sport for them. Her
slogan: “Dream Big. Take Risks. Be Excellent. Live Free.”
Pearl’s Herstory:
I grew up in a township called Mabopane, in Pretoria, South
Africa, where women are seen as weak and incapable of performing tasks
that require a developed intellect. They usually are taught to do just
enough so that they can get married and raise a family, so they do not
threaten the men. A scholarship to receive a high school education in
the United States helped me to move from a place where teen pregnancy,
drug abuse, and soaring school drop outs are the norm. An education
helped me find my dreams. It also made me realizes that my purpose is
to evoke change and ameliorate the lives of young girls who are in the
situation I was once in.
Her challenge?
Although Pearl has lived in New York City for 5 incredible years
as a legal immigrant who holds a student visa, now there are barriers
that are hindering her next step – which is college.
She is not eligible for any federal financial aid as she is not
a resident or a citizen. The only scholarships she qualifies for are
community-based scholarships.
This smart, brilliant entrepreneur wants to go to college.
In order for Pearl to accomplish her goal of obtaining a college
degree, SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP.
Here is YOUR opportunity to invest in Pearl’s future or invest
in girls that she will continue to mentor, teach, and advocate for.
Coming to New York taught her courage, risk taking, and hard work.
Pearl will succeed, but needs YOUR help.
Pearl has the grades, the leadership, and passion to make it
happen. All I need now is the financial support. Every little bit helps.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your
consideration to invest in Pearl’s future!
