Over the course of the year, young people develop stories, call camera shots, steal the scene as actors and direct others to shine too.  Film Kids guides students as a group to produce several short films each semester as a means of fostering social and emotional development. Instructors lead by example on a weekly basis, modeling positive behaviors and encouraging patience, planning, and cooperation, all the while cultivating our filmmakers' creative aspirations.

Our Story

Fifteen years ago, Brian Cox began making movies with his own elementary school age children and realized that young people have the skills and creativity to tell amazing stories through video production. His experience with non-profit organizations and creative outreach projects led him to begin developing original film projects that allow creative input as well as technical, “hands-on” experience, turning young people ideas into a reality. Now we are in Film Kids' thirteenth year and other instructors join in the fun while supporting hundreds of young people's artistic growth at eighteen different elementary schools, Summer and Spring Break Camps.

How You Can Help

We have plenty of ideas for stories, but to bring those ideas to life we need costumes, snacks for our filmmakers, camera gear and time for our instructors to edit.  Your contributions go directly to the production budget at our schools, and allow us the freedom to say "YES!" to our filmmakers' most creative and challenging ideas.
