Purpose:

A number of XR Wandsworth members and many other members of the wider XR community have been arrested, and are likely to be arrested in the future, while demanding the government takes action to halt the existential climate and ecological emergency. While many XR members will be providing vital emotional support to arrestees, this crowdfunding page aims to assist practically. The funds raised will go to meet legal and other costs associated with being arrested while rebelling.

Overview:

• This crowdfunding page has been set up and is being run by an active member of XR Wandsworth who is known to many other members in the borough;
• They have set up a Monzo account which they will use for the sole purpose of collecting and distributing the funds raised;
• The core purpose is to raise funds to assist XR Wandsworth members to meet legal and other costs associated with being arrested while rebelling;
• If there are surplus funds, XR Wandsworth members may decide to support other arrestees from outside the borough, or they may decide to use surplus funds to support other XR Wandsworth activities;
• If, for any reason, the account is closed, any surplus funds will be donated to an environmental cause chosen by members of XR Wandsworth;
• A record of all transactions will be made available to XR Wandsworth members via basecamp and (if possible) copies of the Monzo bank statements will also be made available to XR Wandsworth members;
• It is suggested that Affinity groups should ask for financial assistance on behalf of the arrestees they are supporting but arrestees should also feel free to ask on their own behalf;
• All requests for financial assistance will be considered by the XR Wandsworth Coordinators Group (because they meet regularly and are representative of the wider XR Wandsworth community);
• And, if thought appropriate or needed, the XR Wandsworth Coordinators Group may seek guidance from other members of XR Wandsworth and/or pass this responsibility to another group within the borough;
• Arrestees will be excluded from the decision-making process.
