Jeffrey Gill hasn't added a story.
I first met Philbert in 2008 in Rwanda at a conference on Reconciliation. We have become fast friends through mutual visits both in Rwanda and in the US ever since. Many of you have met him and heard him tell his story. He is a remarkable man, for whose work I have the utmost respect and admiration. His gift for bringing people from different groups together following the trauma of Rwanda's genocidal nightmare is truly remarkable to behold. Since 1996 he has been working in communities all across Rwanda forming unity groups, youth sports initiatives, restorative justice programs for perpetrators of the genocide, and income-generating programs for women from Hutu and Tutsi backgrounds. He has built the Center for Unity and Peace in the captial city of Kigali. He has helped to transform despair into hope for literally tens of thousands of people in Rwanda.
This ministry has come at great sacrifice to his family. I hope you'll join us now in helping to show our appreciation to him and his family in their time of need. All contributions are tax-deductible through African Road.
Additional background
The Rev. Philbert Kalisa is a man who devotes his life to service for others in need. He is an Anglican priest and founder of a wide-reaching non-profit organization called Reach Rwanda ( http://reachrwanda.org/ ) that has helped tens of thousands of Hutu and Tutsi Rwandans attain peace and reconcilation in the wake of the genocide that destroyed the social fabric of that nation.
Now Philbert needs our help. He is a Rwandan citizen but he
co-locates between Rwanda, where his organization is, and Florida
where his wife and 3 kids live and go to school. A few weeks ago he
came to Florida to spend time with his family for Christmas. Shortly
after arriving he was hospitalized with pneumonia and malaria. He
spent 5 days in the ICU and had to undergo a battery of tests.
Thankfully, he is well on his way to recovery. However, being a non-resident he does not have medical coverage in the US. The hospital gave Philbert a dramatic discount on hospital services since he's a non-resident, but he is still saddled with a bill that is an enormous sum of money for him and his family to shoulder.
Please consider a donation to help free Philbert of this financial burden. Let's give to this man of love and service a measure of what he has given to tens of thousands of Rwandans through his work.
