Mutt fans,
It's been quite a day so far. I was at a shelter in Los Angeles earlier and when I walked into the medical building, I discovered, in the last kennel, on the bottom, against the wall, this little guy. A 2-month-old Chihuahua with an extremely large skull. On the surface, it appeared he had Hydrocephalus (water on the brain). He needed help. Desperately.
Bottom line, he was set to be euthanized as early as next week if a rescue wasn't able to take him. Hydrocephalus is a very expensive but treatable condition and it's a big commitment to treat. The shelter doesn't have the funds to provide the extensive medical care that's needed. So their hands were tied. I was in a panic. I knew I couldn't leave him there but didn't know how to get him out without a plan in place. I remembered Panda and how, with the Mutt Militia's help, he is living with Hydrocephalus and doing very well. My next thought was to call Amanda. And as I hoped, and as she always does, she quickly went into action. Next thing I knew the little guy was in the passenger seat of my car.
Zach named him Little Crow and there is plan coming together as type this. He is scheduled to see the wonderful doctors at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital and they will determine what will be needed to give him the best shot at a future. Minimally, he is going to need an extensive workup which will include an MRI as well as other tests.
You all have stepped up so many times before...Little Bear, Mimi, and countless others. It's Little Crow's turn. This guy has touched my heart and will touch yours. Please help us give him the best shot. At only 2 months old, he deserves to have a life that gives him the world and not the memory he has of a cage at a shelter...alone, in pain and scared. Let's please give him that. -- Amy
