Joe Hakunakorn hasn't added a story.
Hi, my name is Joe. I'm a divorced (now remarried) dad who is currently working on my own custody issues with my daughter. When I heard what happened with my friend Sara's custody case, I had to try to do something to help. You see Sara is an awesome single mom of two wonderful and talented boys, the youngest of which is Toby who is currently 5 years old. Unfortunately, both the fathers of her boys abandoned their sons after she informed them she was pregnant. There is more to her story but I am not seeking to drag either father through the mud.
Her current issue is that after 4 years of zero involvement, Toby's dad now wants to be a part of his son's life. Sara has cooperated and allowed the dad to join his life now that he wants "in". He however is rather uncooperative and has hired a lawyer rather than use a mediator to determine the best way to co-parent Toby while putting Toby’s needs first. This lawyer has made Sara out to be incapable of caring for her boys but this is far from the truth.
For over the past 10 years now Sara has provided for their every need and sacrificed her own needs in order to ensure that they are safe, loved, fed, cared for medically, and have a roof over their head. She has had to raise her oldest son all by herself while only receiving minimal child support from Toby’s father recently within the past year. Despite the financial strain, she has become creative in budgeting to make ends meet while working as a baby sitter and a waitress. She definitely is a Superwoman! Her only “mistake” was not being able to afford a lawyer because she put her kids’ needs first. She is smart and capable but no match for a lawyer and needs one of her own. Unequal legal representation due to finances should not be an issue when it comes to putting the best interest of a child first.
Sara is currently at risk of losing proper healthcare for her child due to a judge's arbitrary decision. Toby has allergies and asthma as well as needing speech therapy to help him grow into a successful young man.
I ask that you consider making a minimum donation of $20 or more to help her hire a lawyer if you can afford it. However, any donation amount and sharing her story to help her reach her goal is also greatly appreciated!
Let's make this single, hardworking mom a success story not a statistic! Help her defend her rights to continue to be a wonderful mom and positive influence in Toby’s life. Together we can do it!
