Donna Bright hasn't added a story.
There are too many children in this world who go hungry. Hungry children cannot succeed. It is easy to help alleviate hunger.
The Rotary Club of Ajax, in support of the international group, Kids Against Hunger, intends to undertake a food packing project that will support Rotary’s maternal and child health focus.
This information is from the Kids Against Hunger website - http://kidsagainsthunger.org/what-we-do/ (Insert “Canadian” and “Canada” for “American” and “America”). This is the Kids Against Hunger Canada website - http://www.kahcanada.org/
“Kids Against Hunger packages highly nutritious, life-saving meals (see the website for a description of the food http://kidsagainsthunger.org/our-food/) for starving children and malnourished children and their families in developing countries and the United States. The goal of the organization is for its meals to provide a stable nutritional base from which recipient families can move their families from starvation to self-sufficiency. Kids Against Hunger accomplishes this by mobilizing the energy and caring of American children, teens, and adults on behalf of hungry children around the world. Kids Against Hunger seeks to end the literal hunger of children receiving the meals, but also satisfies a hunger among prosperous Americans – a hunger for meaning and contribution.
Fulfilling Kids Against Hunger’s mission requires a vast food packaging capacity to meet an endless demand for food. Because physical constraints of the International Headquarters facility initially prevented further growth in production, the organization began expanding its operations by setting up food packaging “satellites”. Kids Against Hunger believes that the best way to engage the largest number of people is through a decentralized, locally-based network of food packaging satellites that are active in their community. This model engages and empowers people to realize they can make a difference in solving the worldwide problem of starvation and establishes relationships with organizations such as Kiwanis, Rotary, and many faith-based groups of widely varying denominations. This growth strategy also allows the organization to continuously expand its food packaging capacity and volunteer involvement.”
On January 11, 2014, members of the Rotary Club of Ajax, Ontario, Canada, will mobilize community members to package 42,000 meals. Twenty percent of the food will remain in the community to be distributed to local food banks and eighty percent will be donated to Kids Against Hunger Canada to be distributed internationally to wherever the need is the greatest.
The cost to package 7,000 bags of food is $10,500. Each package costs $1.50 for the food supplies and produces 6 meals per package. This event WILL go forward. But....the more food we can package, the more lives we can touch, and help. We are short $1,900 and would encourage you to donate and support our efforts to alleviate child hunger. Thank you in advance.
