I am starting my 3rd year as a 7th grade ELA teacher and my classroom bookshelf is still pretty bare. Books are fairly expensive, but I spend my own money on at least 10 young adult books a year. With your help, I'd like to speed up the process. My goal is to raise around $500 to buy as many YA books as I can to help fill my classroom bookshelf. That may sound crazy, but it's only about 30 books.

I have always known that reading is important, but as I pursue a master's degree in literacy education, I'm learning just how vital it is to a young person. The more young people read, the better they get at it. The better they get at reading, the more successful they become in a variety of aspects of life.

My latest professional goal is to make reading cool again. I want to create a culture of reading within my classroom. I think this will be easier to attain if I had more books on my shelf to loan to my students. I am currently doing some research to find the best YA books. I do have a few in mind including The Maze Runner series, Uglies, Smile, The Fault in Our Stars, The Book Thief, Howl's Moving Castle, Stargirl, and Codename Verity. I would also like to pick up a few classics like The Outsiders, The Hitchhiker's Guide, Fahrenheit 451, Hatchet, and The Princess Bride.

My students and I would appreciate any donation that you can give. And to ensure that your money was used honestly, I will post pictures of the books that I buy and a dated receipt.

THANKS!
