Khalil Rhazaoui hasn't added a story.
Hello fellow nomad.
My name is Khalil Rhazaoui, and I am the CEO and Founder of Fair Nomad Ltd.
This is an announcement to say that we are always looking for volunteer teachers to help educate the local populations of the villages of Kertasari and Tuananga, both located in West Sumbawa, Indonesia, near Taliwang. We have a desperate need for English and Sustainability teachers. At this point in time, you do not even need to be a certified teacher, although certification will give you priority.
At the time of posting this story, we have had a total of 4 volunteers, two of which have come back since their first visit. We have had a total of 0 paying guests, and our funds are running low. We have enough funds to pay our guides and support logistically our volunteers until mid January 2017 at a stretch, and are in deseperate need of financial support.
Volunteers are put up in camp sites around the coast surrounding the villages, and given access to some of the most beautiful and untouched beaches we have ever seen through our own travels. These are the beaches we usually see in surfing videos with captions such as "secret spot indonesia"...which says it all. Furthermore spear-fishing (with a speargun) and line-fishing in the area is of exceptional standard, as these waters are largely untouched by industrial fishing - for now.
Our guides take charge of the logistics of moving around and relocating the camp sites, cleaning and preparing meals, shuttling people to and from Taliwang and other beaches and picturesque locations - the only cost volunteers will need to bear is for food, which is prepared by local guides daily. The fixed cost for food is 100k IDR per day, roughly £6. Airport transfer from Sumbawa Besar or the harbour, is 500k IDR (roughly £30). This goes to pay for the car rental (300k IDR/day) and fuel (100k IDR) as well as a payment of 100k IDR for the driver. If needed, surf boards, surf lessons, snorkeling equipement, spearfishing gear and other commodities and services are offered by the guides at local rates, who pocket the full payment. We are trying to encourage the locals to build sustainable businesses of their own, and take advantage of this controlled, non-invasive new flux of social tourism.
Separately we also offer a social tourism package, for £30/day per person, or £150/week. Guests will be offered the same rates as volunteers for extra services, and full board will be provided. Volunteer and guest camp sites will be separate, and will move around every few days depending on the wishes of the volunteers/guests and weather/swell conditions. This money goes to help pay the monthly wages of the guides, who get their wage even if we don't have any guests or volunteers, support a number of projects in the villages we work with and fund our education programme. However to this day we have not had a single paying guest, and this is the only means we have to raise funds to sustain our volunteering projects.
If you are looking for a unique, extremely rewarding and unforgettable experience, please get in touch with me personally, or by sending a message to the Fair Nomad Facebook page or website.
Our camp sites are fully equipped with brand new tents imported from America, hammocks, beds, cooking equipement, night lighting, mosquito nets (although there are surprisingly not many mosquitos in this part of Indonesia, we usually sleep outside on our hammocks!) just about everything you would need to live very comfortably in one of the most unique settings one could think of. Security is taken care of 24/7 by local villagers armed with machetes, and arrangements have been made with the landowners of our campsites to ensure a smooth, friendly experience for all our guests/volunteers. This is not somewhere where anybody can come and set up camp - we have strong relationships with the landowners and village elders who ensure our safety and welcome our people with open arms.
This is the beginning of a larger project, the success of which solely lies on the shoulders of our volunteers and guests.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you do not feel this is for you, for whatever reason, we hope we have given you a slither of inspiration to seek out social tourism for your next adventure abroad, wherever you are. And dare we say, who knows, even start something similar of your own somewhere...
