Lauren Morse hasn't added a story.
Greetings, and thank you for visiting my Fundrazr page and
taking the time to read my story. My name is Lauren Morse, and I am
seeking help in obtaining certification as a Death Doula to bring
this fundamental service to the greater Dayton area. I have served
Dayton in many ways over the last ten years as a caseworker for
outpatient mental health programs, and through management of various
non-profit organizations. I currently work as a Program Manager, and
guide yoga classes in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I am a mother of twin
boys, a wife, and I have the calling to help educate and assist the
dying and their families on how they can prepare for the sacred
experience of death.
I have experience in doing this work, and I have assisted
clients in gaining piece of mind as they prepare for their final
days. I have supported families after losing loved ones and removed
some burden of the process to hold space for grieving. I have a
Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Business
Counseling, and I would like to continue my education and be
immersed in the study of death doula work to provide the best care
and service possible.
One of the biggest reasons I am asking for assistance in paying
for this training is because I do not plan on a big return
investment. I want to make this service accessible to everyone
regardless of their ability to pay. I would like to offer sliding
scale options and I will most definitely be doing work at no cost to
clients and for this reason, I am asking the community to support me
in being able to do so.
Funds raised will go directly to training and certification from
The Death Midwife Organization, a non-profit who is bringing the
training to Ohio in March of 2019. Funds will also go toward
obtaining my LLC and other legal protections as an individual provider.
What type of services will be provided once certification is achieved?
The work of a death doula is to provide holistic, non-medical,
emotional, spiritual, and practical support for the dying and their
families (from thedeathmidwife.org).
End of Life Planning & Logistics Meetings: Includes but is
not limited to custom plans for the end of life to achieve desired
goals. This covers all documents that may be needed, connection to
medical providers or hospice care and funeral providers of your
choice. Vigil planning, legacy project support, and the planning of
rituals and ceremony are also important topics to cover.
End of Life Support Visits: Mediation & advocacy, comfort care, emotional and spiritual support, organic respit for caregivers, as well as art, music, and aromatherapy.
Death Positive Education Workshops: Various topics surrounding death
education, advocacy, literature, ceremony, and grief.
If you have any questions at all about the work of a death
doula, please do not hesitate to contact me personally. Thank you
for contributing to this cause and bringing this imperative work to
your community.
Kind Regards,
Lauren
