Craig Petersen hasn't added a story.
My wife, Anne Petersen, is one of the most vibrant, caring, and quite frankly one of the funniest persons you will ever meet. She has a huge heart full of goodness and compassion. Ironically that heart is failing and she is in need of a heart trasnplant.
Anne has faced challenges her entire life, starting with Hodgkin's Disease as a teen and later battled breast cancer as an adult. She won both of these battles, hands down. The radiation she received as a teen, damaged her heart which leads us to the situation today.
Anne and I are unable to have children in the traditional sense, but we volunteer year round in youth sports. Since 2009 we have run the Lyman Youth Association in Gulfport Mississippi, which offers football and cheerleading to kids ages 5-12. We currently have about 250 kids in our program, and we love each of them dearly. The Lyman program became our passion. Anne used to be a fixture in the concession stand, but can no longer work in there, partly due to her health and partly because she gave away too much candy to all of the little kids that batted their eyelashes at her.
Anne has a new love in her life, "Bailey" the amazing frisbee catching Austrailain Shepperd. This puppy grabbed her heart and will be a driving force in her recovery.
Anne and I have been fighting out latest battle since 2007, when we were sent to Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, you see our local doctors could offer nothng else to help us. Our doctors here are the best and we have been working with the transplant team since day one. Anne is now a status 1B, which means a transplant is on the near horizon.
This process is expensive, the medications, the trips to the hospital, and other out of pocket expenses that pop up. We have good medical insurance, but at the end of the day we will have more expenses than income, especially when Anne faces challenges.
The days ahead are going to be our most challenging. Those of you that know me, know that I never want to ask for help, I'm too proud. I must now set pride aside and ask and pray for the kindness of others. You see, if Anne gets a donor, we will have to move to New Orleans for several weeks following her surgery. Given that we already struggle day to day, this seems like Mount Everest that we are about to climb.
Many of you send prayers, thoughts, and ask what it is you can do for us. I now humbly ask that if you find it it in your heart and in your budget, please make a contribution to Anne's health care fund. The monies collected here will directly go to pay for her medical and living expenses as we go through this journey to tranplant.
We realize we cannot do this alone, and need our friends and family in our corner now more than ever. We are placing this in God's hands as we move forward.
We must resign from our youth sports program to face this new challenge full time. Our goal is to get Anne well and get her back out on the field so she can be with those kids she loves so much.
We thank you for anything you can do to help, and God Bless.
Love Craig and Anne
