October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child. Join Sonia Beeksma and the Room to Read - Vancouver Chapter as we work towards bridging the gender gap in education by sending eleven girls to school.

800 million people across the world are illiterate, and two-thirds of those are women and girls. Out of the 124 million children and adolescents who are out of school, 52 percent are girls.

For each additional year of education that a girl receives, her future earning potential increases by 20%. By educating a girl, we change her future and the future of her family and community.

Room to Read is a global non-profit that believes World Change Starts with Educated Children®. We work with local communities, partner organizations and governments to develop literacy skills for primary school children and to ensure that girls can complete secondary school. To date, Room to Read has benefited over 16.6 million children across more than 30,000 communities in 16 countries.

We are going to send 11 girls to school! Thank you for your support.

British Columbians can make 2x the impact

Thanks to our generous matching partner Victory Square, donations from British Columbia are being matched 1:1, dollar for dollar. This means you can make double the impact and provide even more girls with life-changing education. For only $300 US, or less than a dollar a day, we can send a girl to school for one year, including everything that she needs to succeed such as books, uniforms and a female mentor. During Victory Square's donation match, this same contribution will benefit two girls.

Click the Donate button ($2 minimum) and join us in sending 11 girls to school by International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.
