Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
She came to the shelter on September 23rd - One week ago. Her medical records stated "Pet received physical exam on intake as HIT BY CAR. Coat = dirty. Degloving injury on the right rear limb with bone exposure. Wound on head, some blood on upper right gums. Geriatric".
The shelter did what they could to help her. They gave her pain meds and antibiotics. Pain meds and antibiotics for a 10 lb senior girl who had been hit by a car with a degloving injury and broken leg with the bone exposed.
She had nobody to hold her. Nobody to snuggle her. Nobody to tell her it would be ok. She was severely injured, in pain, and without rescue would not make it out alive.
The shelter sent out a plea for her rescue and nobody came for her.
The next day they put a wet/dry bandage on her paw after debriding all the dead tissue between her toes from the degloving injury, more pain meds, and more abx.
The shelter sent out another plea for her rescue and nobody came for her.
Two days later her medical records stated "skin bandage changed, bone exposed and infected".
The shelter sent another plea for her rescue and nobody came for her.
On the 27th, she had another bandage change and her medical records indicated the tissue around the broken exposed bone was becoming necrotic. More pain meds, more abx.
The shelter sent another plea for her recue and nobody came for her.
On the 28th, the condition of the broken, exposed, infected, necrotic injury on her leg was noted as "possible amputation needed. Painful and tries to bite".
The shelter did the only thing they could and sent another plea for her recue. It was her 4th blast. It was her last chance. She had sat for a week with a broken leg, sticking through the skin. The bone was now infected, necrotic, and likely needing amputation. No one was coming for her.
We couldn't let her die alone after suffering for a week.
DRSF came for her.
The little girl we have named Derby took her freedom ride late this afternoon and is currently under the care of Broward Veterinary Specialists.
We hope you agree she was worth saving.
We need your help to continue saying yes. Our calendar contest raised $20,000 less than we did last year and those are the funds that get us through the rest of the year. Will you help us cover Derby's rescue so that our safety net can continue to be there for those who have nobody to come for them but us?
